Advice On Avensis

Hi All

I'm new to this forum and I am thinking about buying an Avensis diesel (between 1998-2000 model),

what should I be looking out for (ignoring obvious items)? what's the maintenance entail in terms of big expenses, and do these machines last long? thanks for any helpful advice.

kind regards

Ats

Howdo!

Based on a lot of people, I'd avoid the 1.8 vvt. Obviously if you're going for a diesel that won't be applicable to you. Apart from that, they ace cars! I have the 2.0vvt (year 2000), and love it to bits. Have had it about a year now, now major problems so far with 70,000 miles on the clock now.

Thanks, why what's wrong if I did go for a petrol 1.8vvt (although I'm pretty much sure about going for the diesel).

cheers

There a period of time when the 1.4, 1.6 and 1.8 vvti engine had some problems

This manifests itself by excessive oil consumption, which when identified is often sorted by Mr T.

Much of the issue seemed to be about getting the engine problem solved by Toyota, because it tended to occur outside of the normal warrenty period. The issue was centred around engines built in 2002-2003 (If i have got the jist of the threads correct). However, if your interested, do a search in here looking at oil consumption.

I have a 2004 1.8vvti - and I find it fine, no issues of note :D
