I have just got a quote to replace a cambelt from Toyota and the say they can change it for me for £182.99  they can also give me a discount which will bring it down to £173.85(whoopie doo)!. They sa it takes about 1hr 45mins to do. Are they KIDDING me or is this price normal?

Is it easy to change it yourself(well i'll could find someone to help me).

Belt does take quite a while - 2 hours is about right @ hourly rate plus belt.

Does the expensive price include the tensioner bearing that you often change at the same time.

it is easy to change yourself there is a guide on here, its one of the sticky's on top. but its for a 4efe not a 5efe if thats was a paseo has in it. I believe the procedure is the same though.

Yes, the procedure is the same. The belt itself is longer or shorter depending on which capacity it is - 1300 or 1500.

The most difficult bit is getting the crank pulley off - these (on some versions anyway) are aluminium castings and the tempation to lever it off with a prybar is huge, but this is likely to cause damage. Toyota have a special tool which screws into two holes on the pulley and a central bolt pushes against the crank and pushes off the pulley in a controlled and safe manner. Toyota also use a similar tool to act to assist with undoing of the crank retaining nut.

to undo the crank nut, leave it in 4th gear get your mate to press the brake real hard and clunk it should come loose!

the pulley came off no problem when i did it, i just wiggled it from side to side with my hand and it slid off the keyway, I think some prior soaking in wd40 might help though.

Thats you're experience, mine is different. I ended up making my own copies of Toyotas special tools after having so many that wouldn't co-operate. I have been lucky enough to have them almost fall off, but that in my experience is less common!
