Warning to T3X owners.

My driver's side retractable door mirror stopped working earlier today. I went to a dealer who told me that the motor had gone and the whole unit will need replacing at a cost of £210 + vat.

Presume you are just out of warranty? I'd push for the dealer to knock something off-just because the warranty has expired doesn't mean the mirror should be of serviceable quality.

I do wonder if there is anything we can do to prevent to motor from packing up-it strikes me that the door mirrors are subject to wind and rain much more than other parts-wonder if a squirt of wd40 now and again would help?

Did you use your mirrors retraction every day?

Runboy,

I do use the retraction facility a lot due to the fact that a 40ft lorry once took one of my mirror's off a previous vehicle. You are right, mine is a 53 plate and has done 73K miles so it is now out of warranty.

I asked about the level of use because sometimes not using a function can cause it to seize, whereas frequent operation will keep the parts well oiled.

Anyway, not an issue in your case as you use it regulary!

I'd push the dealer for a contribution to the repair. If they don't try Toyota direct. Make some noise about taking your business elsewhere if they say no!
