Hey guys,

Had my previa for nearly a month now, not bad! could be a little quicker but hey.

Now, my brakes make an awful high pitched squeal when braking - is this becasue of cheap pads? is there anything i can do to remedy this?

also the rear passenger door rattles when driving occasionaly - is this a dealer fix? bearing in mind the car i have not had the car for the full month?

thanks in advance.

Hello,

You need to get to a garage and have new pads fitted, that noise is there to tell you they need changing ASAP, theres a metal tab on the bottom of the pad and when it wears right down it will start to touch the disk (metal touching metal squeel)

Chow for now.

just got a call from my dealer and they have advised the car needs a disk skim.

this is a cop out isnt it? and to me they should be replacing the disc and not skimming them?

TELL THE DEALER THEY TO REPLACE DISC AND PADS OR YOU WILL GET TRADING STANDARDS INVOLVED.THEY HAVE TO COMPLY AS ITS AN OFFENCE TO SELL A MOTOR VEHICLE THATS NOT IN A FIT STATE FOR USE ON THE ROADS.

cheers Ray - i picked the vehicle up this afternoon as they have to enquire about the warranty i have and wether or not they will carry out the work.

Not happy - the service manager looks like a right pillock aswell. I bit my tongue when he told me they were going to skim the disks, would they do this if a car had come in outside of warranty? no dont think so, so why should i accept this.

I will update early next week when they get in touch and will advise that i want new pads and discs or i get trading standards involved because the car sold to me has a defective braking system - would you agree?

I would have thought that it would be cheaper for them to just replace the disks. Didnt think anyone skimmed disks anymore ! Set of disks(pattern) are only about £20-30 quid !

Well, what a farce this is turning out to be.

I finally got a call today from my local dealer after what 4 days since my car was with them (ok it was saturday and sunday is a no goer but for a 5 minute phone call? dont think so) to be told that they need my car for a full day to examine and measure the wear on disc before a decison is made.... I replied with are you having a laugth?

The disc shows a clear lip on the inside indicating excessive wear, and the vibration when braking is getting worse, surely that shoudl give a workshop an indication of what the problem is? I also told him that i had spoke to trading standards who advices they are liable to change the discs and pads and that a skim is not acceptable especially as i noted this when i initally took the car out for a drive... he says they are talking nonsense and it is toyota policy to skim discs down as they are over engineered...... I have asked him to put this in writing.

He then told me that if I was to have the disc replaced than my warranty does not cover this. He point blank refused and asked me to contact the dealership i bought the car from. I said as toyota is an umbrella org. its irelavant who or where i take my car to as long as its toyota - he also refused to accept this even though I am sure it says this in the handbook. At this point, i was still calm and told him i want everything he has said in writing so that i can pursue with toyota uk and seek legal advise when he interuppted and said i really would contact the dealer.

So, i phoned the dealer and spoke to lady who said this was unacceptable and that i would get a call from the sales manager tomorrow (day off) instead of someone messing me about at thier end.

Watch this space - anyone have any advice for me? and have i done anything wrong here? car has done just over 1k miles since i bought in jan (28th) i was away for a fortnight in feb.

thanks in advance

i think you are encountering a new medical complaint called "don't know syndrome". I recently purchased a nissan serena which ran like a seven legged donkey and the main dealers in cambridge had the vehicle four seven hours and said "it needs a new engine" or so the computer said. but all the twelve year old mechanics put togeather didn't know how to clean out a throttle bar which was the cause of the problem, and the receptionist was so horrible she would be to tough to teach at ST TRINIANS, and told me she was the expert and that was final!!!.

good luck with the problems

regards brian
