Dump Valve Issues On St185

Ive just bought a Bailey dump valve fitting kit for my GT4 and is states that the kit should only be used with a DV26 'D' dump valve and not a normal DV26.

What is the difference between a DV26 'D' and a normal DV26?

I ended up fitting a piston dumpvalve (no make) I got off eBay but im not sure if its quite right?

It works at low bost pressures although not that loud, and at high boos pressures I dont hear it at all :(

Also, if im driving along and let boost build up slightly, then ease of gass theres a bit of a jolt in deceleration, not smooth like usual, any ideas why?

Could it be that ive used a wrong pipe from the intake manifold? will post a pic shortly

Cheers,

Lawrence

Well at least you got shot of the bailey. They`re not that well liked. OK on escrot turbos apparently. :!Removed!:

vacuum connection looks ok. But you could try a different vacuum pipe to see if that makes a difference. Is the DV you`ve now fitted adjustable? Is there a sgrew and locknut anywhere on it? Have you got a pic?

I havent got a pic of the dump valve at the moment, but where the small hose goes onto the top of it there is a nut where I might be able to take a spring out or something, but I wouldnt have thought its very adjustable.

Are their any good Make/Model of dump valves you can recommend? I'd like something loud.

Also if Im running 17psi will this affect the type of dump valve I need?

Thanks.

can you not find the picture on ebay? If you didn't buy it long ago then do a search for completed items, or they might be selling more the same

Looks a bit like a forge copy, Don`t think it`s adjustable. Don`t try and dismantle it. You`ll have springs flying all over the place..... Trust me. I know. :crybaby:

Most DV`s are good for 20PSI+ However it may be of questionable quality. I`ve got a blitz duo sound jobbie thats quite nice (and adjustable). But HKS, GReddy or Forge are all very good.

Thanks for the replys, would one of these be ok?

Im a little confused about the flange tho, looks like it bolts straight onto the turbo? or can I just plug the round tube into where my existing one goes, and have the flanged section as the outlet?

Cheers

Not so simple i`m afraid. You`d have to have a matching flange fabricated somewhere on the inlet piping.side of the induction set up. If you`ve an air to air intercooler that would probably be the best place for it.

If you type 'how dump valves work' into google and have a read through some of the sites listed you`ll soon get a good idea of how they work, what they do and the best one to buy for your application. Incidentally. i reckon this is a nice bit of kit and very good price.

Ok, I dont need the fitting kit as everything is already installed, so all I need is the dump valve, do you know if this one will work ok?

Also are the forge dump valves nice & loud?

It should do. Give them a phone call. they`re a very helpful bunch of blokes. They should put you on the right track.

Oh and if you`ve not done it already get rid of the insulation under the bonnet. Lots of advantages . You`ll let more heat out of the engine bay. The DV will sound louder, if thats what you want. And if you remove the sealing strips front and rear you`ll let more air through the engine bay.
