Re-spray

I'm trying to get a few quotes for a re-spray for the celica just now . All i want is the same colour .

Does anyone have any recomendations of places to try please , preferably in scotland .

I was looking across the pond - in america they have places which turn cars around in like 48hrs , new paint jobs ! These chain spraypaint places seem to do a good job and start from like $260 , £180quid or something !

Click for example

I've never heard of a company as such here , shame . My best quote so far was just shy off £850

Just another example of rip-off britain i`m afraid. I resprayed a car a couple of years ago. the paint & activator (2-pack) cost about 100 quid. I borrowed a mates compressor and spray gun and BA. and did the job in his apray shop in a day and a half including preperation.

OK it wasn`t the worlds best spray job - obviously i`m not a pro, just an enthusuastic amateur who begrudges paying over the odds for anything.- anyway, a couple of days for it to fully cure and a good compounding and it looked as good as new.

The bloke i borrowed the gear from who does it full time said he could pass it off as his no problem. By the way he charges an average of between £400 & 500 for a straight blow over. And he`s never short of work. So if you fancy a career change.

Well £400 is about right then - when you break down the costs.

£100 (minimum) - paint and other materials

£125 - per day labour

£50 - overheads (rent, energy bills, admin, and all the other little things that get overlooked when you diy or have a friend in the trade).

Don't forget, if you don't know them personally they are likely to want to put it through the books as well, so factor in VAT, tax, etc.

My local place would probably charge between £400 and £500 too, but I've seen the quality of his work, and I know that I can't match it myself. Plus he wont let a job go unless he is 100% satisifed with it - I've had to take cars back to him at his request, so that he can redo the job, even though it's only a minor blemish that you wouldn't even notice normally.

Dak - what's a BA in your post up above??

Breathing apparatus.... Two-pack paints often contain an isocyanate as the activator, which needs mixing with the resin just before it is used. It can cause breathing problems. So i borrowed his air fed mask just to be on the safe side.

Ah I see

I thought it was better to ask and maybe make myself look stupid rather than not asking and staying stupid!

Just sorted out a full respray for the landrover for £150, got to sand it down ourselves but I thought the price was good!
