Automatic Gearbox Problems?

I am considering buying a W reg Yaris with automatic gearbox. The dealer has had RAC inspection carried out, but on inspection of RAC mechanic's comments, he has said that there is a noise on making right turns and has indicated that this might be connected to gearbox/driveshaft.

I am not very clued up about the workings of cars. The dealer has offered to replace the driveshaft if further inspection reveals that this is indeed a problem.

This would be a substantial financial commitment for me, so I am rather concerned. I have been offered 6 months warranty with car, but having had two fords in past which had serious gearbox problems (both automatics), I am very wary.

Can anyone please advise me about this? I have heard that Yaris is generally a reliable car but am confused and at my wits end (also fed up paying expensive garage bills!).

Would you advise me to go ahead if necessary work is carried out, or should I steer well clear and look for something else?

You will never be certain the repair will ever be half decent. If that was easy why would the dealer not had that repaired before offering it for sale? Do you think they did not have the car checked over themselves? They always promise you the world before a sale; when it comes to honouring any claim after the sale, they will start shadow boxing. How much are you prepared to put aside for a legal arbitration?

You have shown great wisdom in having that independent report yourself. The garage would have hoped that an interested party might just skip that. Now that you have the report, take advantage of it! Loads of suitable Yarises are just round the corner. You only need to look closer.

i would agree too, just walk away and look at another one.

yaris's are pretty reliable and i have no problems with my auto

strange noises may mean it has been drive hard :(
