Hi Guys,

Just a brief quiery if anyone could help me, a couple of days ago i put an aftermarket stereo in my celica, theres two things i have noticed since putting it in,

1. the stereo doesn't switch itself off when i turn the engine off, i think the original one swithced itself off

2. the headlight warning bleep that came on when i left the car has stopped bleeping which was working fine before i put the stereo in.

oh and lastly i'm not sure if this is a problem, but the digital clock stays on when i turn the engine off, is that supposed to stay on? my other cars and my previouis toyota swithced off?

cheers, any help would be appreciated

I'm not exactly a guru on these things but I would reccomend rechecking the wiring - it sounds as if you have the power for the stereo connected to a permanent live where as it should have a connection to the ignition if you want it to turn off with the car. I would think the same would go for the headlight warning bleep if its only started happening since fitting the stereo.

As for the clock - it should go off I think, mine does.

sounds like you've wired the ING to the LIVE.

Whats an ING?

Anyway when i wired it i just attacched the ISO connecter straight to the sockets on the back of the stereo, which i've done loads of times before, thats what i don't understand, well i suppose i will have to have another look at the wiring, suppose if i disconnect the stereo and see what happens

Cheers

ING - ignition .. so if your key is out, it'll still ahve a voltage feel hence the "bongs" stopping and the clock/radio still being on.

Could be a short in the harness ..

erm, i bought a wiring thingy, i think they call them iso connecters justy to convert the toyota connecter to a standard stereo connecter and all i did was plug it in, and since then i've had these little probs.

will have to study the wiring diagram, and see where its gone wrong.

Its a pioneer cd player, never had this problem with any car before, i think maybe the previous guy had messed about with the wires cos one of them looked to have been cut and put back together.

think i'm gonna have to take all the trim off again to see what the prob is.

It'll be that he wanted to play CD's with no key in ..

just make sure the ING and LIVE are separate (sounds like they are not atm .. )

the 2 wires you need are yellow and red , permanent live and IGN .

The yellow needs to be a permanent live for the memory , and the red is switched ign on ign off .

does that mean i just need to ensure that these two coloured wires are seperated?

will have to have a look tonight?

Cheers guys.

make sure they are seperate if it still doesn't work swap them around as some manuafcturers put them the other way round.

Do all of this on the ISO Adapter as they are the cheap bit. Also the Toyota Wires aren't standard colours. So if it still fails to work snip the yellow and red wires on the ISO Connector and swap them around

Anyone elses Clock stay on when the cars swithced off?

the clock is powered by the same circuit as the radio , sort the radio and the clock will go ok.

i had this problem with a jvc headunit losing its presets and starting a cd from track 1 each time , i swapped the red and yellow and even tried joining them together - problem then was it was kinda on stand by and flattened the Battery within 3 days , mine is an import though , uk wiring mabe diff but i doubt it. i got rid of the jvc unit and bought a double din gen7 celica unit , using the same iso connector it all works fine now.

Cheers GT4, do the double din gen 7 stereo's go straight in? if so i might get me one of them, i kind of like the way they look, i hate the non standard one cos its a pain and it doesn't look good cos the surround has to be taken off for it to fit making it look pretty cra*.
