Revs On Startup

I have an Avensis 1.8VVti 5 Door 03/52 (Last of the old shape). I was reading a Corolla forum, and realised that this applies to me...

In the mornings, or on a cold startup, do you notice that the engine revs to 2,500RPM. It would stay there for a good 30 seconds, then dip to 2,000, then 1500'ish. Personally, I don't mind, but what I am concerned with is enginewear. On startup, when the engine oil is in the sump, 2,500 RPM surely isn't good is it???

Advise please.

Thanks.

Mine does the same thing, never really thought anything of it (just thought it was a Toyota thing, first Toyota ownership).

I've now got a 54reg Avensis T4 and it does the same, Personaly I think its to do with the engine warming up before you really get to hit the road, doesnt bother me to be honest....
