Hi im new here. Just picked up a 96 n reg 2.0gt. the oil warning light is coming on no and again checked the owners manual and its the oil top up light but checked the oil and its above the maximum level, could too much oil cause the light to come on, its mainly when im going down hill when it comes on. Cheers

Probably a dodgy sensor, and more expensive to replace than it's worth, compared to the hassle of the light coming on occasionally. Just keep an eye on the dipstick - it never lies.

My sensor is a benchmark of consistency and reliability. It comes on when i turn the ignition on and goes out when i turn it off. Must take the bulb out one day. The upside is, it makes you paranoid about the level. So mine gets checked very regularly. (When i actually use it that is) :D
