Semi synthetic 10/40 or 15/40, the guys at my local Toyota garage said they used 15/40 semi synthetic. In the manual it states 15/40 as an all year lubricant. I use a quality 15/40 diesel mineral oil and change it every 5000 miles. The engine doesnt burn any oil at all and is quite quiet when warm.

I found getting to the oil filter an absolute nightmare at first, as I dont have access to a pit, and even with axle stands it was tough. I discovered the best thing to get the filter off was filter pliers, I couldnt get anything long enough or get a grip on it with anything else, especially as its the size of a small dustbin. Does anyone know a better/easier way?

I got mine off with one of those tools with the belt-like strap and plastic handles. It came off quite easily, but you still end up with oil running up to your elbows :)

Do a search for a website called Diesel Bob, he might be quite usefull. I'm sorry I don't have his web address, that's on my computer at my horrible work.
