Vandals!

Unlucky Yaris -

Since we bought it at the end of January it has already been keyed on the passenger side from front of the door to the handle.

Woke up this morning to find the passenger side rear mirror broken, the wire is intact but the housing is broken.

The drivers side is fine - it folded inwards.

Obviously an act of vandals - you can clearly see a footprint on the right hand side mirror and there is mud on the passenger side mirror.

It was fine last night when I got back home at 9pm, so it happened at some point last night.

Any idea how much the mirrors will cost to fix?

(Pictures: apologies for the poor quality + dirty state of the car!)

That's a tremendous idea, any1 know the process of getting the laws changed?

Sorry to hear about this, sometimes what goes around comes around, hopefully they'll get what they deserve sooner rather than later.

Im sure it would happen if you knew who it was ;)

Its just a pain to get it sorted and find some cash to pay for it ..... maybe you should invest in some sort of CCTV equipment?

*Webcam and PC works fine

Which part of Lodon are you in? Is it a very rough district? I know this is little consolation, but do you think it might help next time that you park your car somewhere bright, under a street light, perhaps? Don't park your car anywhere hear a pub, for sure. Have you reported this to the police? Not that they would do anything, but you want that to be on the books, in the statistics.

It looks like this attack appears to have a bit more venom than the usual brainless vandalism. Could it be that there was some feud with someone in the neighbourhood?

I am very sorry this happened. My heart goes out to you.

Thanks for all your replies!

I've now temporarily fixed it with some insulating tape :-|, will phone up Toyota dealership today.

Jinxed-

As for getting back at the people who do such stupid things - I would assume kharma would cover it in some form or another :-). Now to create a working kharma system...

Dave-

As for CCTV equipment, we were thinking about something like that - the car is in direct view of our house, but two of the bulbs at the front of the house had blown so it was quite dark. We're considering expanding our driveway (currently its half grass, half concrete where my dads car is parked), so that we can park it off the street.

Bee-

Haven't reported it to police, didn't think there was much use, but it might be an idea, like you said, to do so we get it included in their statistics. Live in North Watford - nice quiet suburban street :-\, but for some reason we do end up with people walking through our street late at night on a Saturday, probably because of an alleyway nearby that links our area with the main road. As for venom, I'm not too sure, my granmothers Micra has been keyed before, and someone smashed in the rear windscreen of the car across the road a few months ago.

Will let you all know how much it costs to repair!

Phoned up Toyota dealer and it'll be £59 for the mirror and £47 to fit. Its electric and the prices are the same on eBay too :S. Looks like I'll have to bite the bullet on this one.

On a seperate but similar note - my mum had an accident today in her Merc. Don't get us wrong - she hasn't had an accident for well over 10 years now, so its a bit of a shock to her and us.

£400 excess on that insurance, so it'll cost a bit to fix :-|. The brake pads were 70% worn and the guy in front of her braked suddenly - she reckons the car didn't stop.

Sorry to hear about all your recent misfortune. Did you walk under a ladder or something?

Someone had a go at one of the mirrors on my old car. Only managed to bend the mounting plate. Biggest shock was a quote of only a tenner for Mr T to fix it. I didn't bother though and sold them the car as it was in part ex for my new one.

I know this is little consolation, but do you think it might help next time that you park your car somewhere bright, under a street light, perhaps?

I did two vandalism claims on cars at work today, also did 3 break-ins/attempted theft and the last call of the day I took was parked under a bright street light at the time, a neighbour saw a man breaking in and trying to steal the Fiesta involved so the neighbour called the Police. They parked it under the light as a deterrent too

Anyway sorry to hear that Ssk, my 1st Yaris got keyscratched when she was 3 weeks old outside my house, it was deep too :ffs:.

Had a similar thing on my yaris - bunch of teens on bikes drove by smashing every car's mirrors. Also the door had a little bump.

A full casco insurance had covered it, but...

Insurance company said vandalism is on our own risk, and they put us all the way down in their table, so we'll pay much more (+500) for the following years..

I'd rather just replaced it on my own and could live with the door bump, but i had no idea back then..
