I currently run my 1.8 petrol on Shell Optimax and was considering using the Fuel injector cleaners that you can add to your petrol to try to improve performance. Does anyone have any experience, good or bad, of using these?

I have a 1.8VVti and on this and my other cars, I do not see a benefit of using Shell Optimax. If you are paying +6p more/litre, then is this of benefit? I cannot see any performance or other benefit - do others agree?

Unless you have mega bhp then there isnt much point in using Optimax in an Avensis...

Its only useful for performance cars and imports which are mapped for 97 RON

My son uses Shell optimax all the time in his 1.8 Avensis. He gets more MPG from it. The Toyota dealer I go to said it is a good thing to use this fuel now and again but it is no real benefit to the performance. I have used it and you do get more MPG from it. I do not use it very often. These days I do not think it is necessary to use fuel additives, We have much cleaner burn engines these days. I recall the days helping my dad decoke his old 1940s morris. This had to be done about every 18 months.
