Engine Oil

Hi all,

Just a quick question, I think that I have an oil leak somewhere and really need to know what oil to fill m car up with until I can get it to a garage for repair. Its virtually dry so need to buy some oil to get by whilst I'm travelling from work to home later today. My car is a 2 litre 1997 rav4 by the way.

I use Castrol GTX Magnatec 10W-40, this is what the local Toyota garage put in the Rav4 petrol engines.

My manual for a 2004 XT4 petrol says 20W-50 and 15W-40API Grade SJ or SL multigrade engine oil.

The Magnatec above exceeds the 15W-40 criteria, any make 10W-40 oil suitable for petrol engines should be Ok till you get it fixed.
