Some Easy Questions About Mk3 Supra's

Hello all, I'm new to the site even tho i registered a while ago.

I'm looking for a mk 3 supra, non turbo, in black and manual and in my search i've learned a few things about them but something came up today.

I saw a turbo with black leather seats, not dark blue, propper black leather seats. I didnt think mk3's ever came with black leather interiors, so my question is, how rare are these?

Thanks

Tom

These came in the very late spec ones, from near the end of the MK3's production. In the strictest sense, they could be called 3rd revision models. Two other things that differed from the previous models were that they came with nice looking 5 spoke alloys as stock, instead of those crappy sawblades, plus they had the new style Toyota Badge on the front, instead of the red square one.

They are somewhat rare. When one does come up for sale, they tend to go for about 2 to 2.5k and are seem to mostly be under 70k on the clock. I'd love one myself. I think the black interior is the best looking one on the Mk3.

Another question, do the mk3's have LSD's?

Also, did any non turbo's come with leather? was it an optional extra?

Yup Mkiiis have LSDs, All Uk turbos do, most NA's do. the leather was an optional extra in the N/a.

the "rev 3 cars" from late '91 on had black leather (or "shadow grey as its called) as an option, they also had more and bigger Speakers, oval Badge, nice wheels, oil level warning light, a head light height adjuster where the flippy trey in the centre console used to be, and better rust protection.

They are pretty rare, especially the latest K plate ones, and the black interiors are very sought after (all the dash etc is black too, makes the interior look totally different!!!

I would show you the interior on my K plate, but TOC garage has vanished!

Some pics of my "K plater" Here

Yeah I've seen those pics, I looked at your site to find out some info on them, looks superb mate!

I guess finding a late, black, manual, non turbo with black leather is going to be like finding a needle in the haystack then lol

That one in the Autotrader link has had a late-spec transplant. It's a Rev 2 '90, but it has the 5 spokes and black leather from the rev 3, although still retains the red square Badge. Looks like a decent buy though if the bodywork is in good condition.

It's worth keeping an eye on eBay, late spec models tend to come and go on there every so often.

May I ask why you have your heart set on an N/a???? They are not notably more relaible then the turbo, cost about the same, and doa similar mpg!!! AS they can all be insured as classics insurance is not that much more ona turbo either.

Because I’m half way through an insurance policy at the moment I have to stay with them if I change car, so I’m sort of stuck with the quote they give me. They wont insure me on a turbo, yet will insure me on an NA for only 100 quid more than I’m paying on a diesel estate lol

It’s annoying because like you say, the turbo’s can be had for nearly the same price and there are more of them. What I’m thinking of doing now is get an NA in any colour apart from white (ideally I want black) and when my insurance runs out, try other places and see about getting a turbo.

change insurance comapany!!!!

Oddly enough, it cost my mrs less to be insured in her supra turbo, all mods declared, then it did to get insured in her bone stock shed of a 1.8 mkii astra. Because they don;t have the naff "fast and furious" image that "some cars" have... theya r eno too bad... they are also insurable as a classic car!!

But I’m trying to build up my no claims, remember, I’m not an coffin dodger so I need all the NCB I can get! I cancelled a policy half way through before and regretted it ever since because I lost a years NCB.

If there was a way to swap insurers half way through and carry over 6 months NC’s then please let me know lol

Get the Turbo!

Dont register the car until your insurance is due. This means you will have 3rd party cover on it under the terms of your current insurer. Read the small print and you will see that you are covered for ANY other car that doesn't belong to you on 3rd party liability. Then get a classic quote but careful on who you go with as mine requires you to have another car with (normal?) insurance cover.

Regards

Michael

This is now being phased out amongst insurers due to abuse, so read your policy carefully.
