My paseo 5efe engine needs big end shells:-

What I want to know is which shells do I order? The ones i've removed have the following markings:-

(on the locator end)

2

(on the other end)

D6A

F

Are all toyota cranks manufactured standard size, or do they have different shells to suit tollerences?

Will this sort of thing do? :- http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TOYOTA-TERC...sspagenameZWDVW

Thanks for your help,

Matt

As far as I can see the part numbers you need mate are 11701-11012-02.

The 02 at the end denotes mark 2, just in case you wanna give Toyota a ring

Those pictures look familiar to me .... had the same problem with mine last year.

I'd recommend getting the crank checked out though - I originally just replaced the shells in mine and it still clattered, turned out to be wear on the crank too. Managed to get a replacement crankshaft from Andrew ( toyotasera.co.uk ) , took it down to my local motor factors/engine specialist and asked them to check it and supply the shells to match.

FYI..Toyota wanted about £400 + vat for a new crankshaft !

Good luck with the rebuild.

i've measured the crank this afternoon and it seems to be still within tollerances, and its still round not ovalised from the wear. As it wasnt knocking when I stripped it, it seems to be in pretty good nick, the shells have done their job and taken the abuse.

Its !Removed! lucky really, i only took the sump off to inspected the bottom end and clean the sump out as a safeguard for my future tuning, i thought i'd kill two birds with one stone as i'm swapping the manifold for my new OBX 421 jobbie. I felt there was a little play in this one big end, and sat wondering if i should part it, good job i did really as it was ready to go wrong big time. Just nip'd in the bud I recon... but we'll see.

I get the feeling He's a !Removed! handy man that Andrew, hope to meet him soon.

Thanks for that offer Bakewell, I'm putting her back together tomorrrow if the rain stays off. I'll find out then if its all good, my verniers arnt as accurate as they used to be and measuring the crank while your lying on your back fighting round the oil pickup and bigends flapping about doesnt give the best of accuracy! We shall see.

just a tip get a 1p piece and run it across each journal. if you leave copper behind then the crank will need micro polishing. TBH i would have it done any way as there could be bearing material stuck to it looking at the shells

thanks for that advice, I shall try that test.
