Heater Fan

Could anyone tell me if my 1997 Corolla GS, has a pollen filter? The car has air-conditioning. The heater fan is by far the weakest that i have experienced on any car that I have owned, I have to drive round with it on full to get any sort of appreciable air flow from the heater. I was thinking that it may be caused by a blocked filter. If it does have a filter could you tell me where it is situtated as I would like to have a go a replacing it myself.

Also the bottom half of the heated rear window doesn't work. Yep my winter driving has been frustrating! Does anyone know of a decent fix for this the circuit doesn't appear to be broken.

Thanks

Sorry but I don't know if your car has a pollen filter - I seem to remember reading that only the new shape Corollas from 2001 on have a pollen filter, but I could be wrong. If you have A/C though, you should have a filter for that (my car has it inside the top of the glovebox compartment, but don't know about yours), but I don't think that would get blocked and interfere with the airflow in a major way - should be changed every few years anyway however.

If you can find out where the air inlet is to the venting system, you could check that its not obstructed by road debris - I've had cars where the inlet was under a plastic grill at the bottom of the windscreen, and which frequently got blocked up with leaves which got around the edges of the grill.

As for the rear screen, its a bit unusual for a large chunk of the heater to stop working - usually its just one of the lines which has a small break in it. The conductive lines are usually painted/printed onto the inside of the screen, along with a vertical strip down each side which carrys the electricity to all the horizontal lines, and there will be a wiring connection to each sides vertical strip part. It could be that there is a break in the vertical strip part on one side of your screen just above the area which doesn't function - the paint is irritatingly easy to scratch off, but you can get special touch up pens for it from places like Halfords.

Good luck with it! :)
