Sticking Piston?

got a problem with my nearside rear brakes where i had the problem with having shot brake pads after 8k miles. Get out the car to smell burnt brake pad material from the same wheel. basically the pads are staying on the disc and not releasing properly. What would cause that? sticking piston? Can you successfully do anything or is it a new caliper that is needed? What sort of cost am i looking at there?

any pointers would be a help

thanks

Couple of options, You could strip the caliper down, Clean the piston - provided it`s not pitted or corroded and rebuild with new seals. Or, You could get a recon one for around 70 english squids.

I would suggest stripping the calliper off. Ensure you use the foot pedal to pop the calliper piston out of the calliper first. Block off the flexi and strip the calliper down clean everything and build it back up again. See how it goes, I did all four of mine a few weeks ago (primarily to paint all the bits) and did not need any new parts everything was fine.

There was nothing complex about the job just take care not to burst any of the rubbers yourself.

If after cleaning everything and examining the condition of the piston if there are no big problems go for the rebuild!

ok, its sticking a bit more to the point, I had one smoking set of pads when i stopped at some lights. Think i best just buy a new caliper as i need to sort it like asap. Been quoted £107+VAT for new caliper, is that a fair price?
