Hi,

I have ust bought a used Yaris SR (2000). It has a standard (built in) CD player. But it won't play MP3. Is there anyway to get it to play Mp3? If yes, how?

Thanks for your help.

1st of all.. Welcome to TOC

2nd.. i'll answer your question.....

No.. the standard cd player isn't mp3 compatable, you would need to get an mp3 compatable player or hook up an i-pod or something to the standard headunit.

Do the standard cd players play mp3's, I didn't think they could.

There are a few topics on how to connect a ipod to the cd player by various methods.

try a search

Welcome to the Club

Try searching for the 'Connects 2' or 'FM transmitter'

It has been discussed plenty of times, but if you have any more questions feel free to ask ;)

Thanks all.

Thats a shame. So, the only ways are either to connect it to a mp3 player or buy a new set?

I have the original headunit and the standard cd player.. the single disc one in the coin slot.. i added a 10 disc mp3 autochanger, and used an FM Modulator to connect it.. its not the best sound quality.. its the exact same as a radio station.. as its through an fm signal.

well, another option is...

if you have a CD-R drive - use something like Realmedia that can convert MP3's to CD format ;)

RealMedia?

Where to find it? How to use it? How many mp3 can I fit into a CD?

Thanks again

Which format should I convert mp3 files to in order to play in the cd player? WMA?

cd format is .cda I use Nero Burning Rom to convert mp3 to audio cd, with the make audio cd option... then if your cd player will play cd-r or cd-rw then your sorted... but only one album per disc this way.

yeah www.real.com i think will do it...

you can fit about 12-15 depending on size, and it automatically converts to audio CD if you tell it to!

Real is pooh .... it will only let you copy to a certain bit rate and 192kbps is limited so you have to sign up/pay.

You should have some software on your pc that came with your CD-RW but I use nero too

You could probably fit around 12 songs on a disc unformated (a disk is 700MB) where as an mp3 has been encoded and compressed so you can fit alot more on

ie say 4MB for an average track at 192Kbps = roughly 175 tracks on a 700MB disk

iTunes will do it if you use that and it's unlimited and easy to install/use
