Here we go...

(Spot the cheesy £3 eBay gear knob!)

Pioneer DEH30MP :D

install2.jpg

Under the middle of the dash a 3 way cig lighter converter, with an mp3 FM transmitter thing plugged in, and a USB memory stick plugged into that!

I made the cabling about as tiday as I could manage

Looks good mate but surely you could hide the cables behind the dash? You'd need to ask somebody else about that one though!

As above really!

To hide the cables would take some work but I would -

Get a USB extension cable and mount/tuck it inside one of the pockets, then splice the cigarette lighter cable behind the dash and chuck it all behind the plastic bit at the bottom (pad it out so it won't rattle about). I take it the LEDs are powered by the cigarette lighter so you should chuck a switch in between the power cable for the LED's mounting the switch where-ever you like

Plus it will leave you with the extra cigarette lighter at the front to charge stuff up ...... I think car manufacturers need to add some sort of power supply - satnav, phone charger, etc and i've already ran out

Yep it is Hotride :D

I really like the HU, there's so much to fiddle with :) I did ask in a local car place about it powering a sub directly and they said it was just marketing rubbish. The guy said he's had a few Pioneers that claim that but they always need an amp.

And I will tidy up that cabling. I need to sort out the cig lighter, I bought a new one because I couldn't get the old one off the original fascia, and the front metal ring is too small so it disappears inside!

yes the blue neons match your blue steering wheel cover nicely...

:blush: The steering wheel cover is from when it was my wife's car - her dad bought it for her, kind of tongue in cheek. I left it on because I like the feel of it. I know it looks a bit "Max Power" though!

PS - They're LEDs rather than neons and don't look quite that bright/obvious in real life, the slow shutter speed made it show up a lot more.

oh my apologies, either way they look terrible, sorry :P

Fair enough. It's only a bit of fun with my first car - If I was that worried about making it look good I wouldn't have left my pack of nicotine gum in the right hand cubby hole :P

Considering I've never done anything with cars before I think I did ok getting a new HU and Speakers fitted, as well as replacing the two bulbs behind the heater with a string of LEDs.

Yeah didnt notice the LED string behind heaters! Could do with bit better location of LED's in some places but not bad effort. Again its one of those things you do when you first get a car. They are something im undecided about. I think i may fit as so cheap and good fun for the odd night when you do fancy them on :D If they hidden no one need know they there when you aint got them on.

Yeah thought as much on the sub output on HU! But yeah im thinking of putting one of those FLI subs on the end of mine as look nice but boot gona be small enough as it is so i undecided. Will get myself pioneers all round and a parcel shealth with pioneer 6*9s in aswell though :D Atleast that give me some bass :D

Im also considering painting the surround for the HU (that plasticy silver one the HU comes with) black to tye it in a bit better and make it less plasticy looking. Nice HU though :D Yeah reading the manual shows loadsa things to play with once i installed mine :D

Yeah this is my first car, and seeing as I'm 29 I should be old enough to know better but I think it's just made it even more of a big deal because I've waited so long for it! I get plenty of p1ss taking from family/friends etc so I'm immune to it now :)

The main problem with the LEDs behind the heater dials is that they're too directional, it was a real pain to get them anywhere near the right position, I may try lightly sanding them to diffuse the light a bit but I've had enough of taking that dash apart for a while! By the way, on the string of LEDs, there's one red one to make the red bit of the temp control look right :)

I was looking at the FLI subs in the shop - they had a 10" one with built in amp/preamp for £89 which seems ok.

The Rav 4 surround bit came with a black surround which works quite well but the silver one seemed to help it blend in a bit more. It's easy to swap though.

Yeah they seem cheap those subs and popular so should be good. Plus i think they look really smart. Good man getting red LED behind heater in that place :D Yeah you really want cold cathode ray tubes (like neon tubes) to give more of a glow than a spotlight for those lighting areas. Nice job though and be good to keep me updated on your car as you got same HU so maybe similar taste so would be interesting to see what else you add :P :D

Try a bit of 'blue tack' on the end

It will stop the LED's from rattling and will take away/disperse the light differently

Cool :) I might give that a go!

nice, would imagine its pretty distracting at night doe, looks well bright!!!

Ed

It's not as bright as it looks in the pics, but when I'm on dark roads I turn off the storage hole lights because they reflect in the passenger window a bit.

Looks good inside, its not like having badly fitted underbody neons :P

I had blue LED's in my footwells in my Daewoo Nexia, they looked really cool!

I like it but i would hide away that cable! Also, like the way you have got it in the vents, very nice!

looks good mate, wanted to do the same myself, got the blue footwell neons in but not quite got round to the others, agree with splicing the cigarette wire tho, saves those wires accross the dash.
