how many calibras are on the roads today , that were built in the early 90's , i seen 1 where i live and thats it.

the older models i did see were rusty around the rear arches

i happened to of liked the calibra when i was younger , but then i didnt see many gt4's about because they were so expensive no one had 1.the day i sat and watched the gt4oc intro i was hooked , my 1994 gt4 is rust free , its damn nearly new from day 1 off the production line if you park next to a 2005 gen 7 , 12 years old and its just awesome in every aspect .

its good people like the calibra ? isn't it.

Good point about the sub 3k "chav" bracket lol. Seems a lot of cars are going that way.

There's a brown 1.6 Impreza round here with lexus lights, HUGE snot-green "555" graphics and the biggest metal wing you ever saw. And 15" alloys.

So what's the answer then? It breaks my heart to see classics like Calibra/Celica chavved up... but unless I buy a DeLorean then people will always do that. One option is to quit car modifying all together (tempting!).

I blame The Fast & The Furious

Bibbs all I was saying was the engine was designed 10 years before yours so I would expect yours to be faster! Thats all ;)

Also why did you join Clubcalibra??? Just to keep the peace??? I'm a member of another Vauxhall site and I know this thread is taken in good humour really. It takes more than someone calling me a Barryboy to get me upset. ;)

Random question - if I said I was going to 'Smoke' you what would you think I mean't??????

It was happening before TFATF, it's just we now get "Jap" Corsas, Clios and Saxos with silly ally wings and *that* front end (you know the one, the same one found on every other hatchback trying to look "Jap").

I've found by taking a massive (for me) car loan and buying an S2000, that I'm now the "chav", having an older car and wanting to tweak it.

It's either upgrade to an expensive IG20 car .. or get out all together.

I know my engine is supposed to be "all that", but I still feel the Corrado needed to be quicker. That VR6 Golf was a bit nutty, I like the old school euro styling of small wide wheels and deep dishes.

Nah, just wanted to know about the whole 240bhp thing .. (typo from Parkers?)

If you said you were going to smoke me, I'd hope it wouldn't be in a US President / Intern kinda way ;)

I'd suggest you'd say your car was quicker over the quater, I know my cars aint the quickest, the MR2 was getting there (and then it threw it's toys out the pram, so I got a new car). The S2000 is just one of the better, affordable roadsters out there ..

I have noticed them mention you special red in the 2nd link :P

Yeah thats because I <I thought I could get past the swearing filter - what a sad muppet I am eh?>ed up and put 240bhp when its 204bhp, god damn Parkers. Like I said I've owned two but never had a DTM one so just presumed Parkers knew what they were talking about!!

Anyways its all good banter, which show how bias everyone is but yet no one ever admits it! I love my Toyota and have fond memories of my Cally's but Im never going to defend them to the extremes some people do. When has anyone ever called a Celica a supercar?? and when does selling more cars than another manufacturer make a vehicle better?! However the interior on the Calibra is nicer than standard trim in the Celica but the squeeky clutch and rattly dash is not.

No bias on here, we just know cack when we see it...

Would never buy another celica, been there and done that 3 times already. But would sooner drive a Fiat Panda than be seen in a calibra today.

This is an interesting topic! time for a waffle :D

Well from my experience of Vauxhalls, that being a Astra Mk3 GSi red-top, Cavalier GSI red-top and a Calibra Turbo 4X4 which i had before i brought my first Celica gen 6 GT. The older Vauxhalls that being from 1988-1995 where good apart from the bleeding rust!

My calibra Turbo was running a stock 205bhp and it was quick, but not the quickest. The 4x4 system is a very complicated real time hydraulic bugger that works nicely, BUT needs a hell of a lot of TLC to keep a £3500 rebuild away!

The 4X4 will disengage when ever the brakes were applied above 40mph to aid better braking at speed but would put a lot of wear and tear on the transfer box and coupling so you would have to keep your tyres with in 2mm of each other, or it would crunch every time you brake! Most older Vauxhalls chew tyres on the front so can get very expensive to keep them the same.

As a whole the Toyota is 50% better built the any of the 7 Vauxhalls, 1 pug and 1 VW I’ve owned to date. If you spent abit of time looking round the gen 6 you can see it has been very well designed, you can see why they chose this cassis for rallying! very sturdy. the calibra is just a Cavalier (family car) cassis with a different Shell and would just fall apart compared to what you could put the Celica though. Etc.. went through 4 anti roll bar bushes with the calibra dew to hard cornering, they were made of flimsy plastic and just snapped!

The handling is much better on the celica with its advanced cassis design and stock strut braces, this thing is just great round corners with limited lift from the wheels unlike the astra and cav that would loose all front traction from the diff when coming out of hard corners.

The Celica engine is quite beefy and sounds like a v8 now I’ve taken the resonance box off the air intake :D The special thing with this engine is the 5 to 7.2k burst of power  you don't get with the Vauxhalls as they redline at 5.5 to 6k then blow-up before reaching anywhere near 7k rpm. This means off the lights your still racing ahead in 1st while the Vauxhall has to change gear, giving you a head lead then same again for the rest of the gears. The Celica can do 120mhp in 4th!!! apparently :)

All in all from where i sit the Toyota is a much better car by far, its the best car i'v owned and its my 10th. It may not have all the bells and whistles the calibras got like leather, heated mirrors, trip computer but you can buy one knowing your money has been spent on the real deal..... and not a family car conversion.

Toyota has the supra, mr2 and Celica gt4 rallying experience under its belt and you can really see it in the gen 6 Celica and the way its built compared to the calibra.

i'll shut up now :D
