Cars are setup to use the airbox which is designed to get cold air and filter it.

Most cones are just open in the engine bay, so you'll hear noise, it may sound faster, but unless you block it off from the hot engine, you'll be sucking hot air and getting LESS performance.

You need a CAI (cold air intake) and a filter for any real gains.

If you look at some of the other cars, there will be ducting, perspex/ally heat shields. Anything to get more cold air into the filter and stop the hot engine "heat soak".

performance wise, sod all, most claim small 5-10bhp increases but i very much doubt that, ur looking at 1 or 2 to be honest. Without a decent cold air feed chances are you will even loose performance as bibbs has noted.

performance wise i'd say you'd get nothing, but the better kit to get for the 1ltr is the greddy airinx, from envy perfoemance (there are links all over this forum)

it costs about £150 and worth the money

otherwise i'd say a drop in panel filter,

stay away from the BMC and the pipercross, they are oiled filters and will bugger up your air Sensor.

The pipercross just clips to your original airbox which is a crap place to put them.

I have the K&N pannel filter ...... but i've read on here about getting a bigger snorkel (if that's the word  ) to fit on the end to allow it to suck in more air.

Anybody know where you can buy these from?

i have changed to a cone filter and it increases little bit power at low revs but losses at high revs and installed the original one again.

cone filters are affective more on big tuned engines like the 3.0 litre of the supra not on a small engines.

on small ones only increses nice noise
