Toyota Tacoma Clutch Problem, Master Cylinder?

This just started last week. Sometimes when I press the clutch to go in 1st gear, the clutch stays down or takes awhile to come back up. It doesnt happen everytime, and it only happens in 1st gear.

Is this symptoms of a bad master or slave cylinder?

The cluth pedal return force is provided by the fingers on the clutch cover plate, through the thrust bearing and onto the clutch fork.

Get an assistant to press the clutch while you observe the movement on the slave. I cannot see how any internal wear in the hydraulics would have the effect you describe. I'd be looking to find a mechanical fault such as the pedal or pushrod catching against a rubber bush etc.

As to why it only appears in first gear is perculiar to say the least!!
