Repair Charge Quote From Toyota

Hi

Brand new to these forums and I have been told it might be good to start a thread to primarily try and get some advice about my first question below.

1) Just under a year ago I bout a T-Reg Yaris 1.0L (1999) from Toyota Dealership with 17500 miles on the clock. 3 weeks ago it went in for a service which I thought would go all smooth however it did not. They have told me and forgive me if I get part of this wrong, that the bushes on my front and rear axles or was it anti-roll bars are cracked and worn and need replacing. They have told me that it will fail for that on the MOT which i have to take in May. I asked for an estimate and they have quoted me for all work £730 pounds. Please can I have some advice as to whether this price is reasonable or am I being totally ripped off by Toyota??

2) I have been reading on some of the others threads about putting in a CD-Player. Silly question but if I have a proper Toyota CD player bottom section from another Yaris could I simply swap my bottom half cassette player out and replace with the other bottom part with the CD-Player on it??

Thanks

Milli

Welcome to the club, good to see another person from Liverpool signing up (unless there's another Hunts Cross that I don't know about), post some pictures of your car if you can.

As for your questions I can't help you I'm afraid but sit tight & some1 who can will be along soon enough, Toyota generally charge silly amounts of money compared to other places though so you might be able to get any work needed done cheaper elsewhere.

No idea what changing the front bushes would cost from your local garage on a Yaris, but, on a Ford for example, changing both front wishbones.. this includes bushes and ball joints.. is approxamatly 70 quid each side for parts and labour, can't see the rears costing much more than that. As for Toyota asking 730 quid for a similar job........ I DON'T FN THINK SO!!!, take the car somewhere else m8, they are having a laugh.

Dont you get a year warranty when you buy from a Toyota dealer?? I have had rear anti roll bar bushes replaced under warranty on a Yaris just before the three year warranty was up -so dont see why you should pay!!

not sure what bushes are tbh as im a numpty when it comes to most car bits but i can say this.... Mr T arent cheap as time taken for job is expensive prox 60 n hour but when it comes to quality theyve never let me down and in fact... theyve gone an extra yard at times too. granted mines a diferent car and aside from many places refusing to touch import mr2 turbos i just dont trust anyone other than its makers to fix it. I think in your case as said above... try and get a reputable mech other than Mr T to do it.... will be cheaper

7xx seems a lot but i dont know whats involved so.... maybe acc T prices its reasonable... dunno

gl gettin ur car back in great order and hope u get much lower price :)

How many miles have you done since you got it?

It should be covered by the one year warranty if you brought it from Mr T - depending on a few certain things.

If they wont pay out for all of it they should make a contribution

I have racked the miles I moved to Hunts Cross (Liverpool) about 6 months ago but I am still coming to work in Manchester, about 30 miles away. And several holidays the car is now on around 34500 miles. So i have done around 16-17 thousand miles since I got it. I do think I got a 1 Year warranty which should run out in May which is when i got the car in 05.

Could it still be done under the warranty or will they charge me??

£730?

I think its possible your being taken for a ride - certainly financially. A 1999 car, it is possible they have cracked. standard bushes are usually rubber, and perish in the cold conditions.

a set of replacement bushes should cost under £100 for parts.

Labour can be time consuming though, the old ones are difficult to get out sometimes, as are the new ones to get in.

clickety clack

check out that thread for an example of how cheap a set of bushes should be... and those are supposedly better (they'll be stiffer) for performance, not that its important here really. but an official toyota set of bushes shoud not be that expensive, in all honesty.

Did they say how many hours labour? i'd like to see how the bill is, in terms of parts & labour.

I suggest you get a 2nd opinion from another Toyota stealership :) or alternatively, fail the MOT and get them (ie another place, that isn't this toyota dealership) to fix it. but I wouldn't recommend this route

That seems excessively high, I would ask for prices from some other garages to compare.

Hi Milli

If I were you I'd be having questions with the dealer you bought it from!

Theres no way I'm sure that a car (that should be checked before it's sold to you) should be in a failable MOT condition less than 12 months after buying it from them! And I would certainly ask them to remedy the problem under the warranty! Else why did they bother giving it to you when you bought the car!

Good luck - let us know how it goes!

Thank You for all your suggestions and i will let you know what happens with this. I was lucky when it went in for the service a bit. They let me have a Yaris mk2 for a courtesy car which was nice having a drive of the brand new one. :D

as nice as drive a mk2 is, i wouldnt let that take ur mind off the problem, i agree with demonic angel, i know the car has done a fair few miles in the months you have had it, it is still less than 1 year since you bought it.
