Thinking About Getting Some New Wheels

I'm toying with the idea of getting some new alloys some time in the future but as I've never bought any I'm clueless about where to look & what makes to consider/avoid like the plague. I've seen Davy's guide (excellent work with that, btw  ) so I know what size I'm after but like I said I've never bought any before so I could do with some experiences of different companies etc if possible.

Just in case any1 doesn't know, I need the following spec (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about any of these though):

4x100

15x7J

54mm Centre Bore

195/45x15 (195/50x15 would do but I don't want to rule out lowering as a future option)

ET38 (if possible, ET35-45 will fit though)

Thanks in advance

Kev

Go for a "good" brand .. watch F1 or WRC and look at the names.

You'll not see "Fox" etc. you WILL see OZ, Enkei, Momo.

Make sure you get good tyres. Don't buy from Halfords.

Save up and get a big car to put them on :)

I personally like Volk/Rays/BBS and Enkei ..

The SR alloys look smart and go for a good price on eBay. Would suit your car well imo because it's not heavily modded

Yes but Bibbs likes to come in here and stir things up time to time ;)

Yeah I know. But I'm thinking blinging new rims with rubber will be £1000. Would it no be better to save for a T-sport etc?

Yeah, I've thought about getting those but I don't want any1 thinking I'm some1 trying to blag they've got a better car, the same applies to the TS ones.

That's tempting...

I was thinking this literally a matter of hours ago but what I'm thinking now is if I keep what I've got for the time being & buy new wheels, I can put them on a TS if or when I buy 1.

but in a while, you may no longer want a TS ;)

Argumentative sod ey??!?

I agree though... nowt worse than fancy expensive alloys with low profile tyres on a car with no other sporty mods/credentials.

Granted, they're better than plastic trims, but be wary of what you spend...

...and in a while I could be dead, live life for the moment, worry about tomorrow tomorrow :P

If I decide I don't want a TS in the future I can always sell the wheels but there are no other cars that appeal to me that I can realistically get so for the time being all I can see myself doing is keeping what I've got or buying another Yaris only with a bigger engine.

A good brand wheel.. preferably a 5 spoke design (never go out of fashion)

Avoid TSW, Fox etc (too soft imo)

Go for Momo, Ultralite, Konig, OZ, Volk, Enkie, Kei Racing. etc.

Seriorsly consider ryan's enkeis :) i have them on mine and theyre great rims (also really easy to keep clean - no close spokes etc) plus white rims always look ace on blue cars ;)

I have TSW's on mine with no problems...mind you i tend to avoid hitting curbs :P

I've been looking at alloys too - This place seems quiet reasonable: http://www.alloywheels.com/Default.asp

(Free upgrade to Uniroyal Rainsport tyres or Toyo Proxes T1-S for £20).

I've just discovered my insurers want an extra £80 a year if I fit alloys though

No one else appears to be commenting on the specs, figure I will. ET38 on a 7" wheel will be almost dead flush with the arches in the front, and with any kind of lowering those tires will scrape on bumps. ET42 has a better chance of fitting clean. That said, most 15" wheels are 6.5" wide.

195/45R15 is very thin. Most run 195/45 on a 16" wheel, so on the 15" wheel it's going to be quite small.
