Mkiii Parts - Ideas?

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the input when I asked about ECU and stuff. I've parked it up in the garage and drained oil/coolant and begun stripping down the top end (no intention of taking the head off yet!) and I noticed a small problem with some missing parts.

The car's had a recon engine installed by a previous owner, but someone forgot to put a heatshield over the exhaust manifold and consequently it's melted the plastic air inlet pipe connecting to the throttle body and has left some gaping holes in it!

I don't suppose anyone's breaking a MKIII down or could suggest a way forward? If push comes to shove, I'll use some Drain pipe and make my own shield from plate steel. It's also missing a clamp for the radiator and one or two securing straps (between head and throttle body and inlet manifold).

Is this classified as advertising? Sorry if it is!

Black "lose" S shaped hard plastic bit, between the two rubber hoses??????

Got one spare....

Have you looked at the turbo, are all the mounting threads there for a heat shield?, these often shear off, (especially the one on the side of the turbo)

If they are all present and correct, I have a spare one of those too... Although its painted black.. (wil polish off)

Hi Karma,

Thanks for the response, Engine's not a Turbo version. On top of the exhaust manifold are three threaded studs, not sheared off but no nuts. The plastic bit that's melted is a Black thing that looks like a barrel, From throttle body heading towards the air cleaner housing:

Flexi Hose with Clips

Barrel plastic thingy (silencer? resonant cavity?)

Flexi hose with clips and connection port for vacuum tube

+ bits

It's the barrel plastic thingy that's melted a hole in the bottom. I forgot to pick up my memory stick so my manual's at home (and I'm at work...)

Cheers

That's the intake resonator. I've got a few of those somewhere.

To be honest though, if you can get a piece of custom piping made up the same length, use that. The resonator is useless, slightly restricts the airflow going in, so if you do away with it in favour of a straight pipe, it's a bit more efficient. From what I hear, an intake pipe from a '94 Civic will fit it perfectly, if 5" are cut off the end.

Ahhh..... sorry. Thought you had a turbo!!!

As mark said, just bypass that resonator pipe, its pretty useless... Striaight bit of tube jubalee clipped in will be fine!

Cheers guys,

Sticky back plastic coming out.....

I'll create a straight tube and replace it with that then and put my own heat shield over the exhaust to stop it melting the intake again!

Thanks again
