This is possibly a good reason for putting the "How To" articles in the GOLD forum

Yeah but why walk a step and pay a fiver when you can get help to do it for free off the internet? ;)

That's my point though - if people haven't bothered to search the net beforehand, and just go straight to Evil Ghey, then it's tough cookie I'm afraid....

Putting them on Gold isn't a good idea IMO either, as it would be wrong to deny non-gold members the knowledge if they ask, as that simply makes Gold members seem like spoilt children who don't want to share.

Anyways, if a mate asked me how to do it, I'd tell them, then they'd tell their mate, and their mate, and so on. It wouldn't stay secret for long...

Fair point....

But IMO selling anything on eBay you can get for free is a poor show on the sellers part and IMO they should be banned from eBay... how can anyone who makes a profit like that be considered a trustworthy seller?

I agree about the Gold thing though, they should be widely available on the non-Gold forums - otherwise it makes TOC just as bad as this Ebayer by charging £25 to become a Goldmember, just for the privilege of some instructions!

Very good points, well made.

It may seem like a dodgy practice to some but if he's simply selling on his expertise for a reasonable price, what's wrong with that?

If you went into a garage and asked them to spend time showing you how to fit a headunit, would you expect ithe advice for free? No, and even if you got it free you'd probably offer them the price of a couple of pints (little less than a fiver?).

It may be seem a cheek but I think that's all it is, not illegal, I wouldn't have thought and daft as it may appear to some, there are people out there who are happier if they do pay for a service of some sort.

Sorry, but if you've got even one burned CD/DVD in your collection where you don't own the original or one piece of commercial software where you don't have a purchased licence to run it on your computer, then you're being just a tad hypocritical, perhaps?

Who are you - my Grandma? Only she calls me Emma....

I just have a fundamental belief in that you shouldnt profit from anything you can get for free!

It was you wasnt it?:lol:

Thats different - thats getting something for free that you normally have to pay for.... this is paying for something that you can normally get for free - heap big difference IMO!

Oh it's diferent all right. We're talking ethics.

The example I quoted is theft and certainly illegal yet many of us do it. What this guy is doing is not theft hence my example and hence my "hypocritical" comment.

Why are some people bothered whether this bloke makes a few quid or not? Nothing stopping them doing the same thing but then they couldn't adopt a sanctimonious attitude to it all.

Good on him tbh. If whoever is buying this information bothered to do some research he would soon fine TOC or similar websites.

The seller has done the legwork and if someone doesnt want to then.............

Would anyone mind if i put the same info for sale on eBay a few times for 99p and donated 100% to charity ?

that way it's a kick in the nuts for the guy cos noone will buy his instructions and the people will get a link to here so we might get a few more memberships and at the same time we would be helping out a good cause, something like children in need or another charity, i don't mind taking the hit on the cost of the listings as it will bring attention to my other items for sale.

let me know what you think.

slight problem missionfish who run the eBay charity thing insist that you have to give a minimum £5 so even if you list something for £1 you still get charged £5

they also take £2 or 4% of every donation wichever is greater as administration

so what i will do is if we sell any i will donate the money directly to cancer research and post the receipt on here.

My Listing For Charity

That should make it not worth him selling it anymore.
