Let me know please the best combination for looks and performance.

I have 215/40/17

The 215 is width

the 40 is size of tyre wall

Smaller the tyre wall the bigger and better the wheels look IMO.

With these tyres my car handles like its on rails even in the wet.

215/40x17

215 = width in mm

40 = 40% of the width = height of sidewall

17 = diameter of the rim

 could I fit 225/45/17 or would these be too wide / too high on the tyre wall??

I don't drive a Celica so i'm not sure what clearance you have, but this simple calculation might help someone advise you....

215x40% = 86mm (height of sidewall)

225x45% = 101.25mm

A difference of 15.25mm (making the bigger tyre 15.25mm taller) so you will need to make sure there is room above the tyre to fit in the extra height.

Also you will be 10mm wider too, put the stearing on full lock (both ways) to make sure there is plenty of room for the extra 10mm.

I agree 205/40/17 would be the best, i had them on my Pug 306 and i did not have any probs with them :D

if you fit 205/40/17 when the speedo says 60 mph you will be doing 58.5 mph

fit 205/45/17 at 60 mph you will be doing 60.5 mph , but hitting pot holes etc wont be as severe also cornering will improved slightly

215/40/17 at 60 mph = 59.3 mph

225/40/17 at 60 mph = 60 mph

Thanks very much for that.

Does that mean that I should be going for the 225/40/17, and will these fit without any problem?

I really appreciate any help.

Thanks
