Thinking Of Selling Gen7 And Getting Gen6 Gt4 St205

Hi

I am thinking of selling my Gen7 and buying a gen6 GT4 then using the other capital to buy my missus a nice little run about.

What should i look for when checking out GT4's (ST205), is there anything i can do to safeguard my money a bit?

If this has been answered lots before please point me in the right direction to the threads and i will ask no more!

Cheers

my advice is go to the gt4 owners club site , in the for sale section , in there are some real crackers been well looked after . some modded to the hilt , some stock , at the moment is a real gem in black going for 4k now .

things to watch for are let go of the steering wheel , if you get lots of pull to left or right , walk away

listen for knocks and creaks at minus 10 mph and do lock to lock standing can also make superstrut crack like mad. take £400 a side off the price.

check the clutch , put handbrake on hard let clutch out slowly - if it stalls right away its looking good

hammer it up a hill , watch for clutch slip - mr.clutch do it for about £200 if you supply the bits - stock parts retail about £250 ish maybe less.

boot it in 2nd , boost should come in and bend your head back , leave you trembling and a little shakey .this isnt a bad thing , this is good.

you may want to test the ecu for fault codes . goto www.st205.net for advice on this plus all error codes.

i personnally went for a stock import as i wanted a car that wasnt messed about with , since owning it 2 yrs , i have spent £ 340 doing the drivers superstrut parts . thats all apart from oil + filters and usuall things like tyres etc. if you fancy a drive pop up north 1 day and you can have a blast in mine.

Thanks both of you for that! good things to look at.

I am hoping to get 6.6k to 7k for my Gen7 so with spending 2k on a nice little motor for my missus that would leave me with 4k - 4.5k for the GT4.

I live near evesham but work in worcester? anywhere near you? I havent been in a GT4 yet so it would more than likely sway the vote!!

most gt4's i see in the trader are going for 5.5 to 6.5 k .

for 4 to 4.5 k you may end up with a pile of !Removed! , that needs alot of work so be very carefull . like i said pop over to gt4oc in the for sale section.

i need a home for a 1.4 gls corsa auto on a 1998 plate , 40k miles , 12 months test ,very very clean with loads of new parts , 5 door hatch , new 15" alloys+ tyres, was the wifes car , now i use it every other 4 days for work ,great little motor very reliable in a light met green/blueish - my gt4 is also up for offers -

ps - 1 drive in a st205 and you will wonder why you didnt buy 1 years ago , a true sports car in every sence , it WILL leave you trembling if drivin properly

Also need to check for knocking from the back under hard acceleration and let off which indicates a new rear diff mount is required, and check the radiator header for white sections and cracks, the radiator end tanks are made of plastic and develop stress cracks over time. New rad is around 100-200 for a stock one or about 300ish for an all alloy koyo race item which seems to be well worth the extra.

Oh and don't forget to check for smoke under boost which indicates worn turbo oil seals.

do you not think its worth looking into getting a fresh import - advan car auctions import a lot of gt4s and they go for stupid prices

I was lucky with mine - she fell into my lap for a stupid price! otherwise I was looking to import one around August time!

just a thought

is that for real? can i just pay the FOB and cost (roughly 4.5k for a GT4) and then just mot and register in the UK???

Their showroom is only 1 hour from me so i may take a look in a few weeks!

i didn't look into it fully - but if you email them I'm sure they'll get back to you about all costs etc - I'm assuming that the "calculate" thingy on there is including everything - but you never know there might be hidden costs
