Tyre Pressure

Hi!

I have a 95 Celica GT. Brought new alloy wheels & tyres for it and had them fitted at the weekend. I wonder if anyone can tell help me with the correct tyre pressure. At the moment i'm getting a really bumpy ride and it doesn't really feel right!

Tyres are: 215/40/17

Thanks

Claire

About 30 / 32 PSI all round should be fine.

When I got my new rims, the first drive was rubbish. Checked the pressures, and they were anything from 45 to 22 (I have a lot of issues with POTN, and won't be going back there). So make sure the pressures are at least even all the way around as well.

Oh, and what size tyre have you come from? There will be a noticable difference in bumpyness if the tyre profile has reduced...

keep the same pressure as the stock wheels , its on a sticker on the drivers door panel - tyre pressures are car weight based and not wheel tyre size based.

iirc the gt is 32 fronts and 34 psi in the rears for 1 person , a full load it rises considerably

also a 40 tyre wall is really small , so comfort will suffer due to its hardness - ie- the smaller the tyre wall the less give and shock resistence it will have

You've just put 17" wheels on. Assuming your old wheels were smaller, then you can expect a harsher ride. Big wheels are for cosmetic purposes only, pretty much everything else about them is bad.

Tyre pressures should be around 30-35 pounds, depending on the tyres themselves, and how you want to balance the front-rear grip.
