Central Locking - Again!

Hi all,

New to the List. I have owned my Avensis 1998 2.0 CDX estate for 5 years and it has never, ever gone wrong. Not even blown a bulb. Until this morning. I have trawled this forum and the problem I have is one that has come up a number of times, ( exactly the same).

Problem is that the central locking has packed in, no reponse from the remote key, door lock does not operate the door locks, except the drivers door, and the interior lights and door opening light on the dash non-operational.

The fix for most of these posts was the 7.5A dome fuse, and interior light bulbs.

According to my Japanenglish handbook this fuse is for : Power rear view mirrors( working) open door warning light ( not working) Electric moon roof (working) Personal lights( not working) interior light ( not working) luggage compartment light ( working) trunk light (not working) clock ( working, but resets every time you start the car) and the audio system( working).

I bought a pack of four fuses, and removed all the interior bulbs. Hey presto! the central locking worked! TWICE, then packed in again. Replaced that fuse twice more, opened the drivers door, no door warning light, fuse blown again.

This has to be something more than the interior light bulbs being short circuit. The fuse must power something else, and the handbook is obviously wrong. Anyone come across the "real" fix for this?

Great forum BTW, especially the tip for Air con, and if you want real problems try owning a 30 year old Lotus!!!

Regards

Jeff

You have a short somewhere....either that or the fuse is too low an ampage. Did you check it's the right amp? But most probably something somewhere has corroded exposing two electrical parts which are touching and thus blowing the said fuse.

By the way....is the "Electric moon roof" to stick your bum out of? Never knew it was meant for mooning...here I was thinking it was for getting some air in the car.
