Corolla Verso Boot

Hi,

was wondering if any verso owners have boot defects?

I have finally managed to get mine looked at by a technical inspector from head office after owning for a year!

THE PROBLEM IS THAT WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE BOOT IT APPEARS NOT TO BE SHUT.

i can clearly see a huge gap down the side ofb boot that i can slide the toyota key ring down but not on the left side.

I have now been told near 2 weeks ago that it needs to go on a jig, but surley if thats the case I should not be driving it let alone transporting my 3 girls in it?

Any ideas?

Hi -

I don't have a boot positioning problem, but I have noticed minor panel misfits on mine.

Example, the flap above the audio console isn't aligned properly, but that seems to be a general manufacturing error. My right tail-light was fitted closer to the body compared to the left one. I notice these things and want all to be simmetrical. I sorted that out by removing it and adding rubber spacers, pushing it away from the body.

Hi erwin,

My car has actually been seen by a technical support guy rom head office who said that it was not right and agreed that the gaps made the car look like it had been in a rear shunt!.

The result is that the body shop have had it twice now and cant fix it, they say that they have looked at 20 odd and each one is different. I can actually fit my finger in the right hand side and can see all the plastic that backs the lights and also the boot support lever. I ll let you know what they do.

kind regards,

lorna

Car now been in 3 times to have gaps evened up around boot/rear lights but still not fixed, have been offered another verso at a cost of £3,000 plus mine! Not bad considering my Toyota dealership admitted it should not have left the factory looking like it does, but have also been assured mines not the worst to be seen!!!

check your body work very closley. mine looks like its had rear end shunt

hi lorna my advice would be to seek legal advice....if you havnt already done so.this is another example of a multi million pound company to greedy to admit a fault in production and therefore unwilling to offer another vehicle as replacement.

i had a similar problem with an avensis...about 5 years ago. the drivers door didnt look right.it would close but there was a slight gap down one side.

after numerous discussions with the dealers i sought legal help and as soon as the solicitors letters started to land on them they began to co-operate and in the end they admitted a manufactering fault and offered me another car at no extra cost.

Glad to see it is finally sorted.

For anybody else with similar problems, why not threaten to go to the local motoring press? Being treated this badly is newsworthy, and the dealership will want to avoid it.

I have been surprised that Toyota have not said that the paint peeling off all four of my verso door handles is not covered by the warranty!!! Even though its only 15 months old and the handles don't appear to have been primered.

They are now doing it as a 'Good will gesture' So presumably it doesn't show on the books.

Nice car, very dissapointing dealership experience so far.

Can you believe that 5 days after I picked up my 'new' one year old car, the oil filler cap fell out on the motorway and sprayed oil all over the engine bay. Despite their attempts to clean it, the oil dripped all over my drive for several weeks. The dealership's reponse to this incompetence was 'These things happen'.

Not at my previous Ford and Vauxhall dealerships they didn't!!!!

Good luck.

Hi Martin,

sorry to hear you dealership are as lousy as mine!

Toyota uk have said they will compensate me if i purchase another car from the toyota range but if i buy another brand forget it!

When the car was first inspected by the chap from head office it was not documented, presumably not wanting to have on paper their liability.

any way boot 18 months later is fixed and car is on e-bay!

kindest regards,

lorna

Ok well after finally having the boot gaps sorted today the bolt holding the boot in place sheared off!

this left me unable to close the boot and having to call toyota yet again.

I can only assume that these bolts are under too much pressure to hold the boot at the correct specification which confirms my theory that the boots on these cars are not correct.

My local toyota dealership has had the car almost as much time as i have !!!!!

hi martin, i too have had the paint flaking of all my door handles...drivers side first and now the passenger side.ive booked car inti local dealership for monday.they are doing the work under warranty.i thought that all cars now have an anti corrosion warranty of around 3-5 years?i said to the bodyshop manager that i have one of those feelings that this car is going to be back and forwards to the dealers over its life span..he just grinned .if this is going to be the case, and i hope im wrong as im happy with the comfort and drive of the car,i'll use the warranty to its full potential and then say ta ta to toyota.ive bought toyota for over 9 years now and i kinda feel that the materials now being used to build these cars are hovering on the cheap side....what do you lot think?

I don`t think the materials are any better than average in fact the dash and seat materials look quite cheap to me, they mark easily.

I like the car, especially the design of the car both and looks function and and I am hoping to experience the legendary toyota reliability...we'll see.

My main gripe is the **** dealerships, they seem to be arrogant and unwilling to accept that there can be anything sub-standard about their cars.

Anyway my handles are now sprayed and look fine. I have the common top of dash compartment problem (big gap on left side of lid) but its cosmetic and I am trying to stay away from the dealership for a while.

My only real gripe with the car is the 1.8vvti engine which is noisy both at 70mph and especially when you stick your foot down. Still I could always trade it in for a deisel. It also returns exactly the same mpg as my previous 2.2 litre vectra which was a lot faster....a little dissapointing.

Well guys Ive sold my Verso!

this has by far been the worst car Ive ever owned, not due to looks or comfort but the dealerships and actually Toyota Uk!

Toyota Uk say that my dealership should of checked my car correctly befor hand over but not sure why a sales man should measure gaps around cars to establish if they are built right in the first place.

Good luck to all of you other verso owners but after 7 years and 4 brand new toyotas Im saying bye bye.

Wish I found this website/forums before I got my first Toyota, I'd have stuck with my 18 year old Golf!

Lorna, did yours come from the dealer by the airport by any chance? I've been trying to get them to sort out a whole bunch of wrongs with mine for a year now, the warranty runs out in 6 months...

I have used Dingles Norwich for many years in fact I travel 50 miles from my home to have my car serviced there and I have always found Darran the workshop manager to be very helpful. I have recently bought a verso diesel from there attleborough branch and the service I received from there sales department was exceptional.

Regarding your problems the blame must lie with Toyota GB after buying Toyota's for many years I must say there customer service is not what it used to be

The service from the sales department has never been an issue-they are too keen to get the money!

Servicing-Ive never had a problem either ,in fact they are always most helpful there too and always kept my car for a day and lent me another so I did not have to wait around with te children.

However this type of good service should not end when you have a car with a problem.

If they were as quick and polite when yoo got a Friday afternoon car as they were when you were buying there would be no cause for concern.

I do understand your frustration it is not only the effort in trying to get someone to do something about the problem its the time and trouble going back to the garage each time to try and remedy the problem

The point I was trying to make was that the car was inspected by Toyota GB they should have taken control and ensured that the car was repaired to your satisfaction or offered a replacement !my dealing with Toyota GB over the last 6 months regarding a problem which I have had was nothing short of disgraceful so much so I ended up writing to Toyota Japan and to which is still unresolved

The sad thing is I do not think Toyota GB are any better or any worse than other motor manufacturers I hope you will enjoy your Audi but unfortunately after owing an Audi A4 avant which needed its roof resprayed after 12 months you just have to keep your fingers crossed
