T-sport Gearchange

Hi,

I have a 2004 facelift T-Sport. The car is stunning to look at and drives really well, but the gearchange between first and second feels quite stiff to engage. Does anyone know if this is a common problem. I have tried a 2003 T-Sport and the gearchange felt slick compared to mine. The Toyota dealership has changed the gear cables, but it has not impoved the gear selection at all. The car has covered only 10k miles.

Many thanks

Icefox.

Not necassarily I would say my gearbox was quite tight until about 13000-15000 miles then it seemed to loosen up a bit...

Hi,

A TRD/TTE short shifter plus TRD CLUTCH+TRD Light Flywheel sorting out your clue.

Mine is a 2004 pre-facelift.I made these changes and I noticed a real sporty feeling.

Also a replacing of the stock FINAL GEAR SET(C-ONE DEVICE) will transform your car into a real beast. You will be able to accelerate from 1800rot/min in any gear, anytime. Is the best modif you can do for your car!

Many thanks to all you folks who took the trouble to reply to my post.

The clutch was replaced at 7000 miles due to snatching when changing gear. The new clutch solved the problem. The gear change feels stiff and notchy between first and second, but the Toyota dealership tells me it is fine( don't they always?). I guess it's something I will have to live with unless I decide to sell the car and get something else.

Regards to all

Icefox.

Hi Mircea,

Do you have the ratios of the stock gear set and the C-One kit? Also, is there a website for C-One---I haven't been able to find it.

Thanks

Paul.

Yes, this is a problem. I've had it on my 04 TSport.

It's particularly bad when it's cold, i.e first thing. It's extremly difficult to get it into 1st and 2nd.

It went into the dealers a couple of times until they found it. It's down to one of the C Clips holding the gear in place from memory. When the box gets warm, the clip slips into place and no problem.

There is something on here with more info from me when I had the problem.

Hi PaulT,

The final gear ratio for the stock is 4.55 and 4.8 for the c-one final sport gear ratio !

Below find their site's adress:

http://c-one.co.jp/C-ONEPARTS/final_gear.html

I bought the device last year from

http://www.gtn.ch/ ,but they closed the company in the meantime.

For more detailes you can take a look here:

http://www.mrs-passion.com/,wich is a french site.

I didn't buy anything from them so far.

Well, put it like this - It works.

I have the same issue back with the noisy clutch/gearbox, where you rev the car to around 3K in neutral with the clutch engaged it's a strong bearing sound. When you drop the clutch, the sound goes away.

I may take it back in, but I fear being fobbed off again and I dont really have the time to mess about TBH.

For info on my 1st occurance, have a look at this thread:

Cheers,

Steve

like most on here I had the same problems with 1st, 2nd and a notchy 3rd. apparently its normal for a toyota box but when i drove the 5 speed it feels completely different, seems to only affect the 6 speed cars. I took it to the dealer and they said it was normal. If it is I was not happy with it.

I ended up taking the centre console apart and noticed when i was engaging 1st or 2nd my actual gearlever housing was moving from left to right so I changed to a TRD shifter and it is so much better. it replaces the rubber bushings with aluminium so its much stiffer and doesn't move. it makes the gear shift much more precise.

Just wondered how much and how easy these are to fit?

Thanks

Hi sorry to drag this thread up after it's been dead for so long, but I am suffering from the same problem with my gears and wanted to know where you bought you TRD short shifter from as I've spent a while searching for a company but haven't had any luck so far. Any info would be appreciated. :)

I've had the same problem since I got my Tsport - well I've had enough! Since I had my other power mods, the clutch has slowly been on the way out, now the release bearing is starting to fail so that sucka is gone! Fitting a Helix clutch that should be able to take plenty of future mods without giving up for a while! It'll be sorted in a week so I'll report the changes then, whole setup including fitting is costing a shade under 600 quid and I'm going to fit a quick shift kit (probably TTE) at the same time - hoping it will make the whole shifting experience alot more pleasent. :)
