I seem to have developed a rattle/vibration noise it happens just after gear changes for a few seconds, my friend also says he has this rattle too

Anyone know what this is ?

Sorry i can't explain this better.

i got something like it too, but it just happens while passing by the 2000rpm, then it goes off, i don't know whether it is from catalysator, or some silencer fixation, maintenance will be in a few months so, if it is something wrong, it's under warranty :P

Cumps!!

Are you sure it's from the exhaust?

It could be two other things....

1. Dash vibrating - easy to fix... get some foam sticky pads and stick them under the black plastic flap at the bottom of the windscreen on the outside of the car.

2. The lock on the boot... spray some lithium grease or similar into the mechanism.

These are two things which happen at similar rpm's to what you said.

If it is the exhaust, just have a look under your car and check all the mounts to make sure they're steady, then check all the heat-shield as this can rattle sometimes also.

well as an owner of a very musical yaris - i havent yet found a part that doesnt make a noise i have the same problem as you...

@2000rpm something at the front of the car makes a metalic rattle

then more revs and that stops

@3000rpm the back end of the exhaust rattles and that is at about the point where i change gear

I get a similar noise, mine sounds like it's from the exhaust and from the front half of the car, exhaust doesn't rattle enough to catch anything, it only does it when i'm driving it will not make a noise when I rev the car in neutral, don't know if this is similar to your problem.

Always seems a bit worse when it's cold outside, or the engine is cold.
