Afm And Maf

Hi, my sisters Yaris has been playing up recently, starting has been difficult, especially from cold, and the check engine light is also on. Before I take it to Mr.T, i want to try some things myself.

Ive tried to read the CEL codes and got:

22 : No continuity in signal from coolant temperature sensor.

24 : No continuity in signal from thermo-sensor in AFM.

31 : No continuity in signal from AFM-sensor.

33 : Malfunction in idle regulating system.

41 : Malfunction in circuitry for throttle position sensor.

I have no idea what these mean.

Having searched on the board, alot of problems regarding the check engine light mention the AFM and MAF sensors and cleaning them. Are these the same thing? I know how to clean the MAF, but is the AFM another sensor i should clean? If so, where is this one?

Anyone have any ideas/things to try.

Cheers.

AFM = Air flow meter (normally mechanical)

MAF = Mass Airflow Meter (normally electronic sensor)

similar things that do the same job but on different principles, you have a MAF on the yaris

looks like you have a serious breakdown on sensors! id be more pointed for that being and ECU problems rather than 5 sensors giving up the ghost all in one

i would reccomend clearing the stored codes (usualy disconnecting the Battery for 10 mins does this) then check again (should be no codes) go for a drive and read again. tese stored codes you have could be old one still in the memory

Yup, that'd be right. most of those codes will be old.

I found, the other day an image of what to disconnect. Cant remember where now though, it simple enough to reset the ECU and clear these codes :)
