Hi

Can u tell me if my local dealer are justified in charging me £ 332 for a replacement inlet manifold? My car is 2002 Corolla t spirit auoto and out of warranty, but surely if it is a warranty recall item it should have been done? if not should I still get charged?

Was never a recall, just a warranty item hence would only be done if problem occured inside warranty. Since it's outside the warranty period they're under no obligation to do it as a warranty item (hence they'll charge you for it)

£332 does seem a bit steep though. If you can get a replacement one it's not difficult to change (few clips for the hoses/loom, 6 nuts/bolts for the manifold and 3 on the throttle body).

let me get this right once is in either 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear it rattle's from around 800rpm to 3000 rpm and once you pass the 3000 rpm mark the rattle stop's.

yes thats correct, but i'm not sure if it completely stops because if i'm going above the 3000rpm, i'm usually on 4th gear doing high speed so i'm not sure if i can hear it or not

This is so very annoying to me. I have had the same inlet manifold rattle since the car was under 2 yrs old.

I went to my toyota dealer in Isleworth Currie Motors reporting this noise on 2 occasions. I was fobbed off both times saying the car was fine and nothing was wrong.

This is not acceptable.

What can I do now? I am not paying for a new one.

Atleast here in Denmark, Toyota are usually fair with the prices if they know it's a factory-fault!

You ARE going to pay some for it, but I'd guess they would charge you 50% or something. Here in Denmark, there's a word for it, it's called: They're giving "kulance". I don't know if that's close to being the english word for it.

But the meaning of the word is, that hence Toyota know it's their fault, but you didn't turn in the car in time, they don't charge you fully for the costs.

A nice way of doing it in my opinion! Fair for all parts :)

Go back and complain again. If they say it's normal ask them to prove it by driving it back to back with a similar spec/engined model. It'll either make the same noise or it won't. That way you'll know it's either normal or not.

what's the reg of the car by the way?

This was never a recall, but a known fault. You could open up a new case with Toyota Customer Relations, be prepared to give them the service history and the full facts before blasting them with a "The parts are faulty....and you know it" type email ;) Tell them what the fault is, how long you have had it and build up a case for yourself, you never know, they may contribute towards it.
