Mechanic For Celica Import

Can anyone help me out here please...

I need to get a new gearbox for my 94 celica gen 6 jap import.

ST202, 3S-GE

I've been quoted £250 plus vat for an imported gearbox only.

First of all,

What other parts do i need other than a gearbox?

Do I need gearbox oil and anything else?

Also,

Can anyone tell me of any decent mechanics or garages in the Manchester area that are willing to touch my import and do a good job of it?

I would be most grateful if someone could point me in the right direction please as I'm desperate to get my car back on the road.

Thanks,

Ronnie

part numbers for a jap ss2 and uk st202 are the same for the gearbox. As are most parts - mention import to a garage and they WILL rip you - the 2 cars are the same , uk one was made in japan remember.

I did'nt know that! They have a plant near Derby presumed it was made there.

Mr clutch and such like need to remove the box to change the clutch, no reason why such places can't do a simple fit for you.

Not that I dont believe you but I dont want to buy a UK gearbox and find out it's not compatible when the mechanic has spent half the day trying to fit it.

What's the best way for me find out it's definately same as a UK model would Toyota main dealers be able to tell me or is there some catalogue that says its the same.

Sorry but I have to be sure I get the right part and dont waste the mechanics time.

I reckon your best bet would be to go to a Toyota main dealer and ask them, as i'm pretty sure they would be able to help you out, I think theres one in the Hyde area. Toyota dealers i find tend to be pretty helpful.
