hi guys watched a repeat of top gear yesterday the feature was to buy a 2 seater sports car from the 1980,1990's era may chose a jag,hammond got a bmw and clarkson a mitsibishi starion wat no mr2...got me wonderin wat were the main competitors to the mr2 im thinkin along the lines of the calibre,rover coupe and was the mr2 the main leader in the sector

watched it too!... was cool. That mitsubishi thing was mad... possible cool. Never seen it before, and it was a turbo!

The starion .. ("stalion" in Japenese ;)).

MR2's Rivals? Depends .. the NA seemed to be things like the Honda CRX, Mazda MX5 .. the sub 2 liter budget sports cars.

The Turbo seemed to be trying to compete with the RX7, 200SX ..

The Calibra/Rover Coupe, Fiat Coupe, were more of a Celica contender ..

The problem was the price .. have a look at what the rev5 MR2 was selling for .. and then the Turbo in Japan was about 50% more than the NA (off the top of my head the Turbo would have been about £30-35k over here).

ive got the original sales reciept for mine and i can just make out the final price (i think) to be 6.4million JPY!

around 32k!
