Get haynes manual as that tells you all of it :D

Basically get your car up in the air so it level though so oil aint grouped up one end, Remove lower engine cover panels, remove the check plug (may be stiff), check the oil is level with or less that 5mm below the bottom edge of the filler level plug hole (check somehow but dont drop anything in!!!) If it aint fill her up with gearbox oil ... Thats it!

But yeah has the car been sold then or what? (just asking out of interest)

Shhh :P Im sure it pretty similar though? Its a gearbox you find under the car and then look for the cap on the side and undo? Suppose if he ain't had a look he wouldn't know though. I would imagine its easy to find from underneath if you know where to look. If you dont then maybe its best left to the experts if you think it needs looking at.
