I am looking at getting a DVD player for my yaris, but just wondered how I would play the sound through the normal Speakers. The dvd player has 4 built in 50W amps but I am just wondering how do I connect these to the Speakers?? Which cable is it that goes to the Speakers. I am very confussed please help!!

If it is a normal HU DVD player you can use it just as if it was a replacement Head Unit and that way you would plug the aerial and get an ISO adapter for the toyota plugs etc into it and there isn't a problem! If not you can use a 3.5mm jack to AUX plug from it and connect to the standard stereo if you use a connects2 adapter or a Fm modulator if you want to run it in through the aerial (you will still be able to listen to radio just a certain frequency will be the DVD audio). If your running an aftermarket seperate HU just get hold of a aux input device for it or get the FM modulator.

If you do a search for any of that that doesn't make sense it will get explained!

Hopes that helps and welcome to TOC!

I am looking at getting this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

Can you advise as to if this is a HU DVD player or not as I am unsure. If it is and you say it will work as a replacement head unit will that meen that the volume control will still be the orginal one next to the clock? or will it work through the DVD player?? Also how would i connect the built in radio in the dvd player to the aerial??

yup this is a DVD Headunit.

you will need a ISO cable/connector with this

volume is controlled on the new headunit, the volume controls on the clock will not work anymore

you will need to install this under the OEM HU, you can leave the old one in there

Its best to remove the power from the old one as the car will not be happy about it and both HU will heat up

PS Welcome to the mad house

Yup as above! Your best bet is to go to the "how to" section of the site and look at fitting and aftermarket Headunit for guides and methods of doing it! In summary you will need a Iso adapter for the Yaris and then adapter and a fascia if you want it to look nice (or put in coin slot below old stereo which wont work anyway with the new one installed)

Hehe Cheers Dave! Na no luck on car search :(

But yeah i wouldn't bother quoting part numbers for the Iso connector as i got a different one to the one in guides and still be fine just depends on which company make the cable. If you ask at any audio place for an ISO connector for a toyota (they may ask what model i.e. yaris nothing specific) and you will be fine! Apart from that the other bits are optional (if you want to fit it differently to that shown in the link dave gave) :D

Hope we are some help to you mate!

Cheers for the quick response everyone!!! I have already had the dash out tonight and had a look at putting it where the coin thing is and that shouldt be a problem. As for this ISO cable, where can I get it from and whats the product number etc?? How much is it aswell??

As for the fascia where could I get one of these from if i decided I wanted one of them instead of having the old cd player above it. Think I am going to go and buy the DVD player now off eBay and hope for the best. Will all the connections that this ISO cable have on supply it with all the power it needs, link to the aerial so i can listen to the radio and the connections that go to the Speakers?? All this is just one cable?? Thanks for all the help!!

The aerial is a separate connector - you just pull it out from the back of the HU and stick it into the new one

Everything else will go through the same cable - power etc

I think that the cable can be brought from most places eg Halfords for around £14 -

But woody will let you know and also tell you the rest

Yeah its really simple! Any audio site on the net will sell the Iso adaptor. It will be around £10. this will have the standard ISO connections your HU will have. You connect them then the ISO adapter connects to the plugs from the car (to Speakers etc and there is only 2 plugs with lots of pins) that you will plug out of the old unit into the new one! Simple as! The only other thing is the aerial which is huge and you cant miss. Unplug from old, plug into new. When doing this check the keys out of the ignition and Battery disconnected if you want to be super cautious. Connect up, switch on, enjoy!

I will have a look around for some sites that sell the adaptor so you know what it is (if you have any recommendations yourself or from mates about good audio websites just buy from there as the ones i will recommend i haven't tried!)

Regarding fascia its two parts. 1. is the adapter from toyota that replace the whole bottom end of that dash to a section with a big whole in the middle. This is a Double DIN slot (thought people have complained about fitting double DIN size bits in here but this doesn't matter for what you want anyway!) 2. Autoleads (i think) do an adapter that converts that big hole into a DIN slot for your HU with a coin slot below. This is a more costly way to do it and is just for those who are fussy about looks tbh. (It may be worth considering for you IF you feel the screen sits too low in its current position!)

Btw as the dash is in the centre of the yari, i would consider sitting in your car and considering what the view of the screen will be like from where you sit before you buy! Just a consideration! (may be fine)

Need any more help just shout!

PS lol beaten there by dave :P

Is the connection on the back of that Kenwood DVD player I am looking at an ISO one...just still a little bit confussed. If it is an ISO one then will this work in my car:

https://sslrelay.com/s75376715.oneandonesho...ISO-Toyota%3D29

Yep - basically ISO is the connection type as standard on most HU's

Because different car manufactures don't want to make it easy for you, they change the pin layout/shape/size of the connector so you just can't connect it up to any HU it has to be a Toyota HU

What the cable will do is allow you to connect it to any HU with an ISO connector by connecting on end onto the end of the wire from you car and then the other end will plug into the back of your HU

Nice one! Cheers guys!

last question...and this may seem stupid but when I took the orginal CD player out there are 3 connections going into it but none of them look as though they would connect to that ISO adaptor. So which plugs do I connect up to the connector?? Are they one of the ones that are plugged into the top part of the unit where the clock is??

Nope they plug into the part where you put the CD's in or Tapes in if its a tape player! They will definately be there as its how all toyotas have been wired up with those two plugs! As far as im aware there shouldn't be any spare plugs. Its really easy to see when its all infront of you tbh so i wouldn't worry. If anything did go wrong (which im sure it wouldn't) you could always get some help physically with it. Im sure you will find it goes smoothly tbh! Im no ICE expert i just found this all out from hanging round here too often and having bought a HU and adapter ready to fit in my car (when i get it!)

Ask as many more questions as you need to mate! :D

I just took the dashboard out again to have a check about these 2 cables you say there are. But there are deffinately three cables going into the back of my cd player. I have taken some pics and posted them up below. I was also looking at the rest of the cables behind there and I have found another larger one near the back tucked away as you can see from the pictures, this is what the cables from the cd unit go up to. Can someone please advise as to which I plug the connector into. I have ordered one off eBay and should be here tomorrow or friday. I have also order the dvd player so looking forward to getting it all working....if it all works!!

I'd just wait till you get the ISO adapter thing and then I reckon you'll figure it all out! All the connectors etc should have a place and it can't be rocket science!
