New cars 2001>

They are split into Bands:

For Petrol Cars:

CO2 Emission | Band | 12 months duty

********************************

<100 g/km | A | - £0 (down £65)

<120 g/km | B | - £40 (down £35)

<150 g/km | C | - £100 (down £5)

<165 g/km | D | - £125 (no change)

<185 g/km | E | - £150 (no change)

<225 g/km | F | - £185 (up £25)

>225 g/km | G | - £210 (new band)

For Diesel Cars:

CO2 Emission | Band | 12 months duty

********************************

<100 g/km | A | - £0 (down £75)

<120 g/km | B | - £50 (down £35)

<150 g/km | C | - £110 (down £5)

<165 g/km | D | - £135 (no change)

<185 g/km | E | - £160 (no change)

<225 g/km | F | - £195 (up £25)

>225 g/km | G | - £210 (new band)

Older cars pre 2001

Lower Band Cars <1549cc = no change = £110

Higher Band Cars >1549cc = plus £5 = £175

No change to historic Vehicles :D

Motorbike VED to increase with inflation rounded up to the nearest £5

So that means an extra £5 for the celica, an extra £5 for the focus and an extra £5 for the bike - Not too bad I suppose.

Still means I might as well go and get a pre 2001 4litre V8

Does anyone know what engine class relates to each 2001+ band?

EDIT - Cheers Sotal

I save a fiver on my daily car tax... which goes straight onto the MR2s tax as it's gone up a fiver! Swings and roundabouts eh?

ubik it.. I think I'll go for housing benefit too.....

It was the inland revenue that put my last company under making me redundant in the first place...

I'm not going to start a row on "hte interweb" .. but I think you know my feelings on the matter ;)

I'm actually waiting for a budget where they give me money back .. instead of a few pence here and a few pence there.

The £125k stamp duty is *REALLY* going to help .. as soon as

a. I can afford a house over that.

b. Find a house within 200 miles that costs less than that.

Yeah "CHEERS GORDAN!" you :censor: tool!

Seeing as though I can't live with my olds and I'll be looking for a gaff of my own come xmas. 29 and can't afford a house.

How the hell can 1500cc be the cut off point????:eek::crybaby:

I consider my supra to be "average" at 3.0 and my supra TT posetively "small" at only 2.0...

Still... I'm all for it if the increase in rad tax sorts the roads, this year alone, poor roads claimed a front ball joint (£117) a week old tyre (£130) and a front bumper/lip (low car, subsided road, not nice!!!!)

Unfortunately I know as well as everyone else, that if anything, road maintenance will be ignored more, as cars are the root of all evil :(

You are an intelligant bloke .. I can't see where you got an idea that "Road tax" would be spend on the roads.

That would be like council tax being spent emptying bins and gritting.

Don't worry ben, I could l claim dole for 4 and a half years, and not have claimed a penny more from the tax kitty then I put in myself last year, not including any VAT or petrol tax!!!!!!

It puts things into perspective!!!

thats it - it is dependant on the car itself, rather than just the engine size..

for most cars since then they have a CO2 rating, hence why 2001 is the cut off!

(however, if i'm reading this right - the new IS250 falls into the highest category! but then even the prius is 104)

Looking at it that way..... you have to pay £5 for 100cc.. at least I get 1500 cc for that...

Using this basis, it would be a bargain to run a 27000cc (or there abouts) merlin engine :D

Ben that was the point I was making ;)

I've just got my Pension details through .. money I'VE had to invest because THEY can't :ffs:

It'll have to be within 3 miles of where I work dude - or next to one of these super efficiant public transport modules I've heard about, clean, efficient, on time, cheap .. called "busses" or "trains" - must me a new thing, cause all the busses and trains I know are filthy, polluting, late, infrequent, expensive and smell of wee. I can't afford the petrol otherwise .. I could always car share :lol:

So with a Co2 rating of 231 my IS200 should be in the highest group....

and if it was a year older, i'd be paying the 210...

as it is, i just have the 175 :D

CO2 EMISSIONS: 237g/km

and if your interested (or to try and pre-empt your question caz) the Yaris 1.3 SR is a Co2 rating of 144:

http://www.whatcar.co.uk/car-review-costs....197&ED=4477&U=1

Just use the car search box next to the title to find your car and click running costs.

i thought it was the top 1% - looking at the boundaries, the number of cars in the higher bracket is nearer 5-10%!!!!! :ffs:

2.0 6 banger (IS200) - 231

2.0 4 banger (S2000) - 237

1.3 4 banger (Yaris)- 144

I'd hate to think what falls into the <100 bracket .. I'm sure me runnig round the block would put out more emissions.

2004 1.0 T2 Yaris = 134

So that means according to the chart Sotal posted, I should save £5 a year?

Saying that, it was £110 before, so surely it's the same? It was £115 for Diesel cars...

Has anyone actually found a car which falls into the <100g/km bracket yet?

Toyota Prius Hybrid is 104

Honda Civic Hybrid is 109

Apparnatley there is an LPG prius hybrid prototype which is 92 but I don't think it's production yet

198 g/km - Corolla T-Sport

311 g/km - RX300

Proper environmentally friendly household here!

Just checked that car review site - not even a smart car (the little fortwo one) is under 100 - its 113!

Can anyone find a car under 100 g/km ??

nope, cant find anything that falls below 100...

and as Ben alluded to, anything with more than 4 cylinders or 200bhp seems to be in the highest bracket...

which im sure Gordon said was the 'top 1% most polluting cars', i think our Chancellor needs to go back to school for some mathematics there!

diesels come off okay though...

So they've made a new tax bracket to save people loads of money except the only vehicle that fits into is a push bike
