Celica Gen 7 Electrics - Radio / Headlight Problem

:help:

Help needed please.

Last night on the way home from a very disappointing footie match, my Celica, obviously as depressed by the result as I was, decided to throw a bit of a wobbler.

I stuck a cd in the standard issue Sony player, and every 20 seconds or so the sound went off, as if the cd was skipping. I then noticed that at the same time the headlights flashed on/off really quickly.

I figured out that with the cd/radio/stereo off, all was ok.

Now I might be imagining it, but prior to this starting I think I could smell something burning, and it wasn't my season ticket!

Question is, anyone any idea what might be causing this, and should I carry around some bread and marshmallows to toast when it sets on fire ??

LOL--mmmm toasty marshmallows .

Not too sure , have you checked for a loose fuse ??? maybe a bad conection somewhere?(battery). My Gen7 knowledge aint too hot thou.

The smell i think you'll find is you being paranoid - i often do this ! Like after i put my spoiler on i was sure i could hear it creaking n cracking , kept watching for it falling off :)....

I think i`d be inclined to whip the Stereo out and have a look at the wiring. Could`ve chafed something. But i would have thought a fuse would blow first. Check the headlight wiring as well.

i had the same problem, but also every time i flashed my lights the stereo went off.

Fixed it by replacing the Battery as it was knackered

 odd....

Check your wiring on the back of the stereo, and all fuses first - we don't want you blowing yourself or the motor up! I've posted loads of times on how to remove the centre console of a G7, have a search around if you don't know how to do it.

Once all that looks ok, put the same CD in again, and turn the volume down really low and try testing again increasing the volume of your CD player until the issue happens again. Try a different CD, same method, see if it happens again.

I have a wierd hunch that its just the CD player drawing far too much power at certain points when the music is heavy / hectic on your CD... Would that sound reasonable?

I'll tell you what - that sounds about right to me. I had to cheer my-self up so stuck the faithless cd up as loud as I could take - and that's when the problem started.

Tried it again tonight a lot lower on the volume and hey presto / al-ac-azam (!!??) no problems.

BIZARRE! cheers

My knowledge of gen 7, and every other car of any make, is even less hot! Not sure really where the Battery is.

Joking aside, I know what you mean about paranoia, I changed a wheel about a week ago and for the next few days I was listening to the nuts coming loose and flying off (I kid you not).

Cheers

:) Glad that worked. Everything should keep ticking over as normal, just when your stereo takes a little more power than your car expected, everything lit up dims for a second. There's ways around it - put a capacator in line with the stereo power and it'll never happen again, but to be honest, I'd just live with it and not try and deafen myself! :P

Have you got a T Sport by any chance?

Just seen that you have a 190.

Its a common problem and is a fault in the ECU.

I've been having all sorts of fun and games with my alarm/central locking recently...........

On Saturday I went to open the car and the keyfob wouldn't work. I tried the spare and that was the same. Unlocked the car with the key and the alarm went off and wouldn't stop, even when I started the car (with the key!). Ended up driving off with the alarm blaring until it got fed up and stopped after a minute or so.

Then when I stopped a few miles away, it wouldn't lock with the keyfob, but would unlock with the keyfob.......bizarre.

I then drove about 20 miles, got out of the car and locked it and it was fine - locking and unlocking as normal.

Got home on Sat. night and the thing wouldn't lock again. It's fine now - but it's one of those intermittant problems. Annoying. I'm wondering if it's had anything to do with a flat Battery I had two weeks ago, when obviously everything was reset when it was jumpstarted?

Just a pain in the backside. I was already getting slightly fed up with things going wrong, but could forgive her because she's a great drive, but the more things happen, the more disillusioned I get and the quicker I'm thinking of chopping her in :(

But also the more excited I get thinking about the her S2000 replacement! ;)
