Known Turbo Problem?

I was driving home the other night and the malfuction light came on(03 D4D)and the engine revs dropped to 2000 rpm(which its supposed too). After I stopped the car then restarted it everything performance wise returned to normal except the malfuction light stayed on.

The light went off on its own accord the next day,but I booked it in to the nearest dealership as a warranty job just as a precaution.

The dealership ran a diagnostics test on it and discovered that a componant to do with the turbo had malfuctioned. They said that this is a known fault and Toyota were aware of it and modified the spare part but wouldn't fix it(even though everything appears now to be as it should be)as because my last service wasn't with a Toyota franchise, the warranty is now void, even though it was with a reputable VAT registered workshop  .

I'm now liasing between the customer services and the dealership to see as if they will replace it as its a common fault and one which they have recified.

Anyone else had any of the problems above and also whats the worst that could happen if I wait until june to get it fixed(bearing in mind that everything is going smoothly) as when the Toyota warrany officially expires,my extended one(with another company)comes into force?

Does anyone know how much this would cost to sort out as a matter of interest?

Thanx in advance

Toyota cannot void a warrenty has long has toyota sevice parts where used. I work for a toyota specialists and we get cars in that are under warrenty and has long has we put toyota bits on the car the warrenty is still there. Car makers cannot stop you using any non franchised dealers has long has genuine parts are used.

As far as I'm aware the only things that were changed were the oil and air filter.

I havn't been in the engine compartment to check that they are Toyota filters. In fact do Toyota make filters or do thy use Lucas,Ferrodo or whatever?Thanx in advance.

Hi, I have a turbo problem with my 2003 D4D Avensis. Search the forum for turbo or davestringer for details. This problem still exists and causes me a lot of frustration. I am delighted to hear that there is a known problem. My dealer does not seem to be aware of it. Can you tell me exactly which commponent they said was faulty. Any info you can give me would be appreciated thanks. Dave.

P.S. I agree with the others. I'm sure the law was changed so that car manufacturers could not void a warranty because you had work done elsewhere. They could only void it if the parts used were inappropriate or the parts or their workmanship caused the problem.
