Guys,

Whilst changing my lights on my Corolla TS at the weekend for some new 100 watt lightening blue Type-R bulbs that my mate has got in his CTR I saw the name Yamaha stamped on the side of my engine. Did Toyota go else were for the 2g-zz engine or what. Or have they used some technology from Yamaha to allow it to rev so high. I am really puzzled

Nick

The motor was co-designed with yamaha..

The 2zzge shares nothing in common with the VVT-i Generic corolla.

Yamaha have made some nice race motors for performance cars in the past, so this is nothing new.

Yamaha have great tecnology with hi-revving applications.. Just like their bikes...huge top end!

Yeah the head on the 2zz-ge was designed by yamaha. Toyota and yamaha have been working together for a long time, their first co-production dated back to the early eighties when they produced the 3T-gteu 1.8 DOHC Turbo, an awesome engine in itself.

All of my friends are either DRIFT heads, into motocross or love the V8 dinosor tecnology. And are very stubbon, so you can believe me when i say they don't like the idea of me getting a corolla, they think it's gonna be like the generic corolla.

Untill I mentioned the motor is developed yamaha and has a 8350rpm fuel cut.

Now I get some attention.

The Toyota 2000GT was built by Yamaha so the partnership goes right back to the sixties ;)

If my memory serves my correctly I do believe that Yamaha also built Ford’s 1.25 Zetec engine for the Fiesta. Also I remember it was not a lot slower than Fords own built 1.4 Zetec. Just shows how close today’s motor manufactures really are. But going back on the 2G-ZZ engine, I love it. I read in a magazine the other day how a lot of the journalist who had driven the car and referred to the engine as a bit like an “Old School Honda Vtec” good thing I believe.

judging by this post, i imagine most of toyota's performance engines have been develope with yamaha. Mine is (73 celica 2TG)

If we went further into this though, im willing to be its just the heads that they have been involved in though.... well, as opposed to the blocks anyway :D
