welcome

i would strongly suggest you dont

1stly - these cars are very powerful and you need experience in a low powered car for at least 2 years i would say.

2ndly - these cars cost a lot to run, inc insurance which would be a fortune for you.

3rdly - if you get your dream car now, what will you have to look forward to owning?

im sure everyone else will say the same, sorry for being negative but i think im being realistic

You'll be able to get insurance from someone, it'll just cost a hell of a lot. Get some quotes, do the sums and see if you can afford it.

If it's boarder line I would suggest you wait a while and save up, if you buy one then have to sell it coz you can't afford to keep it running it'll Kill you :ffs:

Things to consider,

cost of petrol. Average 20-30mpg depending on how you drive etc...

cost of insurance.

cost of servicing roughly, service ever 9k\12 months oil change every 4.5k\6 months is the book schedule budget about £2-300 for service £50 for oil change if you do it yourself.

cost of repairs if anything goes wrong :crybaby:

cost of loan repayments.

everything else you normally pay for rent/morgage, food, bills etc.

money for going out\buying stuff etc.

Over estimate on all the above that way you'll have money left over incase something jumps up to bite you in the rear.

CAN YOU AFFORD IT.

If not get something cheaper and save up till you can, half the fun of a dream car looking forward to it. If you can afford it then go for it, but consider getting yourself on a performance car course, driving one of these beautys is a whole different board game to a normal car. Everything happens so much quicker, instead of just planting you foot everywhere you need to stop yourself and think is that car far enough away from me etc. Also you need to start thinking about what other drivers are thinking most of them don't expect you to be covering ground anywhere near as quickly as you can do in these cars, so you have to actively watch out for people who might pull out on you etc.

Not trying to sound preacy or anything as I been in your situation myself and decided to wait, finally got there last year and haven't looked back since :D

sound advice from sketchy, driving can be a fun thing, especially in these cars, but with great power comes great responsibility, you have to think about controlling the car when things go wrong. your better off getting the experiance behind the wheel and getting to know what other drivers on the road will do before buying and risking your dream car

I think at your age you should buy a GT 1st... at 17/18 that is a dream car!. I cant imagine 17/18 year old (boy or girl) not having an accident in a GT4. High power + low experience = bad idea :crutchy:

I scare myself in my GT4 sometimes. although i feel im a good driver (dont we all) i have to remind myself not to be too cocky B) My dad is really worried about me having a GT4 as they would be so easy to kill yourself in it if you dont respect its power.

Basically... if you buy one please be careful  Its an amazing car!

I'm 19 (20 end of this month), and just managed to insure a celica SR gen 6 (same engine as ST) for £1600. I'd done two advanced driving courses and had been driving a 1.6 corolla for the last 2 years (under dads insurance), and thats by far the best quote i could find. Most companies turned me away when i mentioned the GT.

Personally, if you like celica's go for an ST to start with. Possibly an SR but bear in mind they are group 13 (st are 12). Insurance will be a nightmare at 17 in your own name on pretty much any car, but expect even an ST to be over £2000 fully comp with high excess.

Go for the ST first, see if you like it. Even after driving for 2/3 years I dont think i'm ready for a GT4 - in money and experience. I'll hold out till i'm over 21 then consider upgrading to one :)

damn well truly i KNOW its a bad idea...........but i have to admit i have a thing 4 celicas. i would feel dead driving a hatchback or even a bmw..........although there are a few good bmw's around. still, i always do things on impulse even though people advise me not too. never played by the book! il just wait and see what happens i guess, and another thing apparently supras have bad rear wheel drive, this true ????

???????? bad rear wheel drive ?????????

the cars are rear wheel drive yes, bad????? definatley not.

my supra tt is the first rear wheel drive car ive owned, she has stepped out on me a few times, but thats all part of the fun.

just got to take it alittle bit easier in the rain. hee hee

p.s. dont even think of trying to buy and insure a tt supra, group 19/20. think again.

hope u make the right decision for u. always think about the running/servicing/tire cost etc before commiting yourself to one.

wow you have gone from a gt4 to a supra. :D

my other half owns a supra and it rocks. handles great when its dry. rear wheel drive is alot of fun. a gt4 is deer enough to keep on the road as it, i am sure the supra would cost alot more. but again if you can afford it then go for it.

lol i used to be on supras, then i realised what insurance group they are :). and i happened to see some celicas for sale, liked them alot. dont really like the newer 2003/4 models, they look too sharp. prefer the celicas from like 94.

As a lot of people have said, its probably not the best idea to get one at such a young age, i'm currently looking at getting one once i turn 21 later this year and the insurance pretty damn high then!

Have you actually tried to get an insurance quote? i'd be interested to know how much they want to charge you, if they will quote you at all! :!Removed!:

And nice pics :laughing::thumbsup:

Why not look for the lowest insurance group Celica with a GT4 kit on it? I've seen a few (but don't ask me where as I can't back it up! )

Hi Jez,

I suppose if you can afford it its not a bad idea, but even if i could afford the car i couldn't justify paying that much for insurance. and in addition to that i would want to get some experience behind a smaller engined car as i'm sure even the more experienced drivers would have trouble with the GT4's power.

i see myself as a pretty experienced driver and a pretty good one at that, but even i'd be a bit worried behind the wheel of a car that fast. i mean i've lost control of a Civic type R when the power kicked in, and its very difficult to control it ( and i've had 10 years of driving experience), if i were you i would wait a year or so at least, maybe get the GT and drive that for 12 months then upgrade to the GT4, like i'm doing.

Either way the decision is yours, and good luck whatver you decide.

Honest opinion here, and I drive a daft car and pay horrific insurance..

I'm 19, and I've had my latest car, a Daimler V8, for 2 months. It's a 4.0 Supercharged engine, but the car is heavy, so its still not a racer. Before that I had a Jag XJ6 3.2. Before that I had a 1.0 Corsa. I'm not trying to mouth off about big cars here, Jag's arent most people cup of tea here!, but the point I'm trying to make, is that by far and away, the car that has had the most hammer of all, was the corsa. Despite the fact that the Jags have the power, anyone who's driven one will agree, they LOVE 50mph. When you're in it, theres no rush, you're in your own little world.

Having said that, the Corsa was black plasticy, and made a good sound at 5,000 rpm. That car got thrashed about the country roads where I am. I've got a funny feeling a Celica GT4 may be a bit more sporty again lol. When you buy a car like that, they were never ever meant to be driven slow, especially the likes of the GT4, they took the normal car and made a fast version simply so it was just that, fast.

I don't know what you're like as a driver personally, but if someone gave me a GT4, or a Supra, I honestly dont' think I'd have it 6 months before I crashed it. I say wait, get a normal celica for a bit, and get your no-claims built up some more. Hell buy a Jag for a while, my driving has never been as laid back!

Matt

But is that on a ST, GT, or GT4?

TBH i dont think anyone will insure you on a gt4

can i ask why you want a GT4? Is it for the looks or performance?
