as a rule of thumb, 275's... to 300's.... if thats possible

i always take it as - width of wheel +10-20%

I asked the same question on the supra forums and was told to go for 275's which actually looked way too small on my 10" rims.

I'd say go for 285's or 295's

BTW does anyone know the widest tyre i can get on an 8 inch rim?

The Tyre Bible has a rim width calculator on it. Works backwards for what you want, but trial and error seems to work :)

Depends a bit on the profile of the tyre too, but like Leeky said 285 or 295 would probably be the best on a 10" rim.

Remember guys wider tyres on rims is not always best...

Excess tyre wall material will "flab" about, making steering less precise!!!!

I rememeber deliberately putting 225s on an 8J wheel, the resulting tighter sidewalls make the steering responce pin sharp, due to the minimalised movement of the side walls under lateral loads!

ok with that in mind whats the ideal tyres sizes for 8j wheels?

Need to get tyres for the Aristo for the ring, got 235/45/17's all round at the mo.

Am thinking i'll go for 235/40/17's for the front and 255/40/17's for the rear.

Bigger grip at the rear and lower side walls.

what width of tyres should be put on 10" wide rims??

cheers baz

From the top of my head......

You can fit 275 to 305 width tyres to a 10j rim.. however, this will depend on the profile of the tyre.

The correct tyres size will depend on the type of car they are being fitted to.

Fitting a tyre to a too narrow or wide rim changes the tyre profile and gives a negative effect to the overall tyre performance.

Leeky.. 235/40/17's for the front and 255/40/17's for the rear... sounds good to me.

Also, the widest "permitted" width for an 8j rim is 245.. 8.5j is reccomended for 255's.. but they will squeeze onto an 8j without any problems.. again, depending on the profile of the tyre. (the higher the profile, the more sidewall there is to fill out the rim)

mad welshman.. if you need more info.. post here tonight and i'll see what i can find out tomorrow when i'm at work, as i will have access to the wyse guide. example
