hi guys im possibly going to buy a double din cd player from a new version celica 190 what i would like to know is ..would it fit in a mark 2 mr2 and the other problem is underneath the original toyota tape deck theres a cover i take that off and theres two metal curved plates what are these and can they be removed to fit the celica deck

I'm guessing it looks something like this at the moment. This is my old Pioneer head unit and Toyota blanking plate. Remove both of these and you have room for a double din player......

I had ours to bits at the weekend - the standard toyota blanking plate (like the one in the first picture) doesnt just snap off.

To get it off undo the two screws behind the ash try and the screw to the side of the steering column (LHS).

The pop off the gear stick surround and spring off the plastic section from under the gear stick section. This means you can now pop of the main dash peice that sits around the stereo. You can unclip the hazards and cig lighter.

There should be at least four screws holding a cage in place, the upper part of it will be the stereo and lower the blanking plate. The plate is actually screwed to the cage - so slide the cage out and unscrew it - same with the head unit itself.

Hope that helps .. obviously this is on an MR2, but from what I remember of our celica it was the same.
