Carine E 1.8 Auto

Hi Folks,

Bought myself a 1997 1.8 Carina E Auto back in August last year.

First time I have had an Automatic (prefer manual but back probs forced me to have an auto) and pleased with the car.

Just have a few queries.

Economy light has always been on since i had the car and i keep o/d on all times, but suddenly yesterday the economy light has disappeared :crybaby:

Also can anyone help with fuel consumption, mpg please. I knew that an auto would use up more fuel but my fuel consumption is not what i thought it would be.

best wishes

PS i see a few :) people have probs with the alarm system. mine drove me crazy for several weeks, just going off randomly, could not switch it off and was fed up of having a spanner ready to disconnect Battery in the middle of the night. The nice men at my local toyota dealer disconnected it in the end saying it was a fault on the siren.

Hi,

I have had the same problem with the Economy light a couple of mounths ago. I expect you have only to replace the bulb lamp with a new one. Not complicated and not expensive. If you need details on how to unmount the instrument panel tell me. I expect that it is also an old post in the forum related to this topic.

Relative to the consumption, I can tell you what I calculated in l/100km:

9,5-10,5 l/100km in the city,

7-7,5 l/100km on the high way with a speed of 130-140km/h. And >1l oil /1000km when runing on the high way :-( .

But I like the car.

Regards,

Cristian

Sounds like a lot of oil consumption there! I do 1000km per week (600 miles) and hardly use any. engine is 4a-FE 1.6

Yes that is a bit on the high-side for oil consumption. The 4A-F series of engines was IMO Toyota's second best 4 cylinder ever next to the 3S series, both were very fine engines.

Many thanks folks for ur replies. Will check that economy bulb.

have to do some conversion. am getting about 25 miles per gallon. just not used to automatics and do all town work.

Do like the toyotas though and am pleased with this one. have had a mk2 celica and a corolla in the past and just had to go back to a toyota.

best wishes
