can anyone tell me what needs to be plugged into the empty space on the left?

thank you

the other plug with 16 pins on it.

ECUs have either 26 + 16 pins or 26 + 16 + 12 pin plugs.

cheers for that

i do not know what ECU is on my car at the moment, i am pretty sure it is a 4EFE one.

If my current ECU has the extra 12 pins how would i go about fitting the 4EFTE one that doesn't have the extra 12?

4e-fte came in both flavours. I have an ECU of both flavours in stock.

ep82's were mainly 2 plug apart from the automatics. Ep91's were three plug.

The pin outs may not be exactly the same as the 4e-fe, it may not be plug and play

so it looks like i've got an ep82 then. if necessary, would you consider parting with a 3-pin ep91 turbo ECU?

yes. if you've got a ep82 4e-fte ECU, then I would swap it for my ep91 ep82 4e-fte ECU. If you've only got 4e-fe ECU then I would sell it.

it says 4EFTE on the box mate.

i'll PM you in the next couple of days with better photos

couple more questions:

could i still use the engine bay wiring loom i've currently got with the new 3 plug ecu?

what does the 16-pin plug control? because the wiring for that has not been included so i am assuming it is part of the main loom, not the engine loom

what does the extra 12-pin plug control aswell?

sorry for all the questions it's just that this is my daily drive so i need to minimize the time the car spends off the road.

you need to get the pin outs and circuit diagram of your current car, and compare with the pinouts and circuit diagrams of your planned ECU.

Many of the wires will be the same at the ECU end, some will need to be swapped around at the ECU end, some needs modification at the engine end.

You need to talk to the chaps at www.streetlegalstarlet.nl as they've done this before. Many of them speak good English.

thank you very much, that PDF was most helpful

when i get half a chance i will check what connector config my current ECU runs, i know it's the original 4EFE that came with the car, i am unsure of the number of connections it has, i am assuming 3.

if i had a 3-connector turbo ecu would it be a straight swap then or is there still some headscratching to be done?

Cheers

if it has a 3 plug ECU then it may well be easier, but there may still be some wiring changes needed.

If you take the lid off the ECU and look on the bottom printed circuit board, the pin outs are printed on the circuit board.

Take advise from streetlegalstarlet as well.

UPDATE!

had a look at the ECU on the car today. turns out it's 2 pin! so the ECU i have now is better suited.

well if you take it out Open the lid and unscrew the top circuit board, printed on the bottom circuit board should be the pin outs - at least they're there on 4e-fte and 5e-fhe ecus

Or if you know your local Toyota dealer well maybe they could copy the section of the manual for you

(if you do, let me have a copy)
