Hi Guys / Girls,

Just reading on the GT4 section with regards to how many miles people are getting out of a full tank, a few people mentioned they were getting in excess of 300 miles to the tank, someone even said they got over 400 on the motorway (in a GT4) i have a Gen 6 GT and i can only manage 300 miles max around town, and on the motorway at 70 i only managed about 330.

could this be a fault with my car? does it need tuning? or a new lambda sensor? or something else?

any help would be great.

:( :help:

Your lucky if you get that many miles from a full tank. I get on average 220 :crybaby: thats when petrol is 87.9.

Everybody has said there is something from with my Celi, so MOT time im gonna get her checked out.

Depends on your driving style and journey types. Short town journeys can be as low as 17 mpg, steady motorway cruise could be high 30's. Air temp also affects mpg, you will ususally find that you get worse fuel consumption in winter.

I get 220 - 250 off £40 which is rubbish for a 2.0l! Its just had an mot and everything is in order and so think Lambda but cant be bothered changing it! Lazyness strikes again. Just for info my miles are urban as my car rarely sees motorways!

I got 320 off £50 in a V6!

Quick Question - How much does a full tank cost from say when the orange light goes on?

well i reckon i only get about 220 - 250 on a full tank. so im guessing that ive got something wrong too. if it is the lambda sensor how much do these cost to replace?

Im starting to think thats its due to the engine, 174bhp is alot for a 2.0 NA so mayber its a bit thirsty. My 2.0l Calibra would do 275 when its was treated like a !Removed!! but that was off £50. If I drove the cleica in the same way it would not do 150miles to £40 infact if I have a good night at the casino on Friday I will do a test, to see how little miles I can get. I hate tests but this one sounds enjoyable!!

The only way you can work it out accurately is to brim the tank, record your mileage. Then next time you fill up, brim it again and see how many miles you have done. Quoting miles per £ of petrol is not much help - you have to factor in the cost of the fuel.

The orange light comes on at slightly different levels in each car. Mine comes on when I still have around 15 litres left in the tank.

Like I said earlier, don't expect more than 20 mpg from urban driving. :(

If it helps Im quoting prices from last week so it should be the same now.

I think 20MPG is terrible, its a good job the dont break as I have little money left after filling it up

I always fill it to the Brim, when the orange light comes on and stays on, and i always only get just about 300 miles, and i always drive around town. it cost roughly £50, but i alway fill up around that mark, as the last car i had, it ran dry when the onboard computer said i had 100 miles left, because of that i had to pay £30 to get the ecu reset, pain in the A**.

max i have had out of the celica is 330ish when i iwas doing a constant 70 on the motorway, and believe me it was a long journey so i was trying to conserve the petrol cos it was a 600 mile round trip.

the only reason i'm questioning is cos soem of the guys on the gt4 forum are getting miles better mileage than me and thats with there GT4's.

oh well i suppose i will get the lambda done when i have the money, i also think my exhaust is away to die as i'm hearing a funny noise from it, like its blowing or summat.

:(

Can it be? A small part of life where having an ST is actually better than having a GT or a GT-4?

FWIW, I've averaged 380 per tank over 17000 miles in the past year (min 350, max 450) from my ST and the vast majority of my driving is to work and back - a delightful blend of bumper-to-bumper start-stop monotony and occasional bursts of high-speed (65mph!) activity on the motorway.

Most of it has been with a soon-to-be removed K&N 57i in place. I can confirm that it makes no noticeable difference to fuel consumption; my before-and-after stats prove that. I also ran on Optimax for a while just for the sake of a test and although it felt a bit punchier, it didn't make any noticeable difference to fuel consumption either.

Cheers,

Tarby

yeah i suppose in that department it is better to have the ST, isn't the st designed to be more fuel efficient anyway? i suppose the benefits of the GT outweigh the downside, see i always smile when i get it to the 6000 rev range cos the car starts shifting like mad!

That's the kindest description of the ST's lightning performance that I've ever read! I'm genuinely moved :crybaby:

Next time I get burned off by a very average car, I'll shout out of the window "This is designed to be fuel-efficient, you know!!". I was rather disappointed to lose out to a 2.0 Jag diesel at the weekend, and don't get me started on the Yaris that overtook me!

Cheers,

Tarby

I dont think I could own a car under 8.5 seconds as I would get bored. Maybe Im lucky that I can afford to insure and run more powerful cars, or maybe my need for speed is just an expensive passion! Sounds daft but I would rather have a Exscort with performance of a ferrari than a Ferrari with the performance of an escort.

yeah well i've had some slow cars in the past, but i wanted summat more fun to drive, although i don't really put my foot down much, but when i do its amazing.

anyway i decided to get a new lambda, as a few people have mentioned they need replacing after about 50k, my cars done 108k and its never been done, so i think i will do that and see if the economy goes up.

just had some good news i thought my exhaust needed replacing, popped into toyota dealer and he goes theres nothing wrong with it.

:)

Escorts are pants tho, every tom d*ck and harry owns them, but if you've got a ferrari such as an Enzo people KNOW you've got money

You missed my point there babycakes. A 600bhp 200 MPH Escort or a 90bhp 110mph Enzo, i'd have the escort.

as Maverick said - I feel the need the need for speed!
